I am sick of only hearing about waterboarding...
Kidnapping people.

Imprisioning children and the elderly

Civilian 'casualties'

Slicing genitals

Leaving bullets in the wounded

Bugs in Boxes

Forced Sleep Deprivation

Why are our cable news people focused only on waterboarding? Isn't there an element of protection when the GOP whines about waterboarding in order to focus our attention away from the other blatantly brutal inneffective methods they used for political purpose?

Stop believing what the GOP people say. They will make protection of Cheney an issue of protecting the country, putting the rest of the country a victim of Cheney's ideas. I'm sick of this 'hide behind the flag' strategy for the right. We are not responsible for upholding your mistakes.

I fear the direction the debate in this country is going towards. The GOP is retrenching in the most offensive ways possible. If you give the GOP the ability to start a debate, they will start it in ways that protect them. Know the arguments clearly ahead of time and dont let them capture the 'frame'.

2. They are trying to convince Americans there is some sort
of question whether it is torture so they won't get worked up about it and only concentrating on waterboarding because that is probably the only area they can convince people nothing should be done about it coupled with the illusion that it is the only form we engaged in (since other forms would be harder in some cases to defend even to the ignorant).

4. That's what disturbs so much about the media's Hanity bait.
Edited on Fri Apr-24-09 03:27 PM by chill_wind
And it IS bait: It's an effort to suggest and reinforce that there is still a legitimate "debate" to be had about near-drowning and suffocating humans , with emergency tracheotomy kits on medical standby... but also it deflects from the whole grotesquely brutal and (in some cases) murderous spectrum of what happened. That's not an accident.

5. But it is the subject that those who decide have decided that we...
all shall focus on for this period of time for which they have decided. When they, (those who decide), decide that we can focus on something else they will change the subject and we will all focus on that which they decided until they decide once again.

9. your right...

sometimes i wonder if there is a habit though --

take the oil price 'debate' the other summer, the media debate tended to default to the 'china and india' question before anything else

take the run up to iraq - it was about 'defending saddam' instead of asking what would happen afterwards, and how was it going to work

9/11 was about - why they hate us/war of civilizations.

subprime defaulted to 'we gave poor people loans'

i guess that it is clear to me that our 'media' have a strong tendency to start the debate on conservative angles, leaving progressives/dems in a habitual reactionary position. im not sure if we are making any progress in this regard.

11. We need to hear more about it, and all of the other forms of torture.
And the pictures of horrid torture should saturate the news media.

We deserve to be sickened by it, over and over, until something is done to prosecute the crimes against humanity.
