Election 2010: Pennsylvania Republican Senate Primary Toomey 51% Specter 30%
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/pennsylvania/election_2010_pennsylvania_republican_senate_primary

Incumbent Senator Arlen Specter trails former Congressman Pat Toomey by 21 points in an early look at Pennsylvania’s 2010 Republican Primary. Fifty-one percent (51%) of Republican voters statewide say they’d vote for Toomey while just 30% would support Specter.

Specter is viewed favorably by 42% of Pennsylvania Republicans and unfavorably by 55%, according to a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of voters in the state. Those are stunningly poor numbers for a long-term incumbent senator. Specter was first elected to the Senate in 1980.

Toomey, who served in the House from 1999 to 2005, earns positive reviews from 66% and negative comments from just 19%.

1. Pat Toomey - the gift for the democrat party
Because there may be enough right-wing rabit wackos to give Toomey the victory over Specter but that counts for about 25-30% of the overall vote in Pennsylvania. Toomey is going to have to convince alot of sane moderates that he could do the same job as sane moderate Specter has been doing for years. AND then he has to hope that the entire city of Philadelphia stays home that day and doesn't vote.

4. So it looks like PA will give us another Dem Senator in 2010, are there
any other states that will be easy to pick off?

Any other states where a Dem Senator might be in trouble?

Perhaps we need an entire forum for these questions... is there one already?

that Colonel Klink may get replaced by Major Hochstetter. Spector is a reasonable man, as far as Repugs go, while Toomey is as batshit crazy as Michelle Bachmann. And there are plenty of tiny-brained yahhooos here in Pennsyltucky that will vote for him. I'm hoping the Democrats here can field a viable candidate to run against him like Fightin' Joe Sestak. From his wiki entry: Joseph A. "Joe" Sestak, Jr. (born December 12, 1951) is a retired United States Navy vice admiral and currently a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Pennsylvania's 7th congressional district (map) since 2007. The district incorporates parts of the Philadelphia suburbs, including most of Delaware County.

Sestak is the highest-ranking former military officer to serve in Congress.<1> His legislative efforts have resulted in House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer naming him the most productive freshman member of Congress. <2>

I for one would donate to the Friends of Fightin' Joe.

11. Oh please let this happen
Toomey has absolutely no chance in a general election. It will be nice to pick up yet another seat in the senate.
