Yes, I realize there are bunch of other vital things to attend to, but the nominating of liberal/progressive judges to open positions in the federal judiciary (rehearsal to the inevitable openeing/s on the Supreme Court) must be started, and soon. The Republicans will obstruct, but while they may be at their meanest right now, they are also at their weakest.
The Supreme Court was of THE most important issues in the last election. Stevens is hanging on for now, but should his health deteriorate (he is almost 90), at least he can retire secure in the knowledge that there will be no Roberts or Alito to take his place. I'm sure that while Obama in President, Scalia will hang in there as long as there is breath in him, but even he is not immortal. He is over 70.
But in the meantime, there are vacancies in the federal juduciary that need to be filled, and filled with judges who will make decisions based on the law, and not right-wing principles, such as Bush's nut cases, e.g. Priscilla Owens. Now is the time. Make the tiny GOP minority obstruct with a filibuster if they are so inclined. It will only gain us points by comparing with how the Democrats did no such thing.
So, yes, give this no more priority than it deserves, but considering how vital it is to our citizenry, please by NO means give it LESS priority than it deserves.
