Let's not be too naive. Whatever useful information me might of got from KSM we got early.

So why did the water-boarding become more frantic later, during the Iraq War run-up, rather than earlier?

I would guess because we were trying to get him to provide details on Al Queada's involvement with Saddam Hussein. You know, the operational ties Cheney just knew existed.

How frustrating it must have been for the neocons! I'm sure KSM confessed over and over to working with Saddam but for some reason "refused" to provide the kind of corroborating details that could be checked.

When you recognize that torture was being conducted, not to keep America safe, but to help get George Bush the war he felt he needed to be re-elected...

Well, it aint' "24"

And I'm sure a bunch of people in Iraq were tortured to provide the locations of the hidden WMD we just KNEW were out there. They might as well have been tortured to provide the location of Atlantis.

From Kenyans tortured to admit membership in the largely imaginary Mau-Mau cult to illiterate servant girls tortured to admit to having sex with Satan on Walpurgis Eve, torture is often a tool to get people to admit to the "truth" of which the torturer is already absolutely and unshakably convinced.

During the Spanish inquisition the public reading of the "confession" of a (usually tortured) convicted heretic occurred during a ritual called "Auto de Fe"... literally "act of faith"

Faith indeed!

1. That makes about as much sense as any other reason...
I've always wondered what the real motive of BushCo was. I mean, a covert CIA operative was exposed. She just happened to be tracing the movement of WMDs throughout the mid-East. Why was she outed if we were "fighting terrorism and WMDs in the mid-East?" It would seem to be counterproductive to expose her, unless she was about to expose a "deal."

I wonder if Saddam, al-Qaeda, the Taliban et al were proving to be "bad for business."
