NY-20 !!!??! Down by 178 votes, Tedisco sues to be declared winner
Just when you thought the Tedisco campaign's tactics couldn't get any more absurd here in the 20th Congressional District, they just became utterly ridiculous.

According to late Thursday night report in the Hudson Register-Star, the Tedisco legal team filed suit in Dutchess County court demanding to be declared the winner in the special election race with Scott Murphy.

Yup, you heard that right.

Tedisco's down by 178 votes, according to the official New York State Board of Elections tally. Yet he's asking a judge to declare him the winner.

Come again?

Even though he's falling farther and farther behind as the count reaches its final stages (before a court rules on challenged ballots), and even though the vast majority of ballots yet to be opened are Democrats challenged by Tedisco...

Here's the front page headline and lede in Friday's Register-Star:

1. Oh, for Christ's sake, this is getting as bad as Minnesota!
It's driving me nuts. And, because it's taking so damn long, it's no longer a lead story in the paper or on TV. :-(

The latest is that Tedisco is challenging Senator Gillibrand's absentee ballot because she was actually in the district on election day! :wtf:

Does that mean that the 92-year-old lady I canvassed, who also voted absentee, though she lives less than a mile from her polling place, should have her vote disqualified, too?! :grr:

6. What I meant was that Tedisco will keep challenging everything, trying to postpone the inevitable...
He started out by challenging the election results while the polls were still open. Maybe he's envious, since he couldn't vote because he doesn't live in the district. :grr:

I'm sure that Gillibrand's absentee ballot counts, as does the vote of 92-year-old Mrs. P., and Tedisco has to know that. But it's just another way to delay things. :grr:

I mentioned this before, but one senior citizen gave me an earful about the Tedisco canvasser who came to her house. She was very upset because the girl picked a fight with her, said she was voting for "Socialism and Nazis" because she voted for Scott (absentee ;) ). :grr:

BTW, both Mrs. P. and the angry lady are registered Republicans who voted for Scott.

8. It will be sweet to see Scott sworn in.
Of the uncounted ballots that might come into play, it looks like most of them would probably favor Scott, no?

11. Depends where they're from.
Edited on Fri Apr-17-09 06:08 AM by Rhiannon12866
Scott won the northern counties (Warren, Washington, Essex) handily, his home turf. The exception was Dutchess County, one county in the southern part of the district, but then I called voters there. ;)

The closer that you get to Albany, the more likely that they voted for Tedisco, including Saratoga County, the most populous county in the district, and where I grew up. :-(

It also matters who they're from. The snowbirds had to have their absentee ballots in earlier, while the last to be counted are from the military overseas. It's said that the military tends to favor Republicans, but I can't imagine that these poor beleaguered folks would have any great affection for the party who sent them into harm's way, could you?

As for Scott's swearing in, I just can't wait for this to happen. As it is, Governor Paterson already congratulated him, referring to him as "our new congressman," on election night...

oops! typo

3. Tedisco is slime... IMO as someone is familiar with this jerk because
I grew up in Schenectady County, where this POS actually resides, he's just a Bruno wannabe. :grr:

As for challenging her absentee ballot.. other then I think he's just being a PITB just because he can be :eyes:... I don't know exactly how that works if you expect to be absent from the area because of business, etc but then end up being able to be there. If she had voted absentee and then had gone to vote in person because she was there he'd be squawking about that too I suspect.

At the rate they're going they're going to look as silly as the black knight in Monty Python's In Search Of the Holy Grail movie... actually IMO Coleman already does.

9. Did I know that you lived so close to me?! LOL.
I did hear the connection between Tedisco and Joe Bruno mentioned quite frequently by the voters I spoke to. Considering Bruno's current problems, I'd think that Tedisco would have tried to play that down.

Actually, Joe Bruno was a protege of my Dad's .*sigh* Guess he didn't learn much since honesty was hard-wired in my Dad. :-(

BTW, Bruno's son used to play with my brother when we were kids. I remember him as a big fat kid who used to sit on my scrawny brother.

And I'm sure that Tedisco has to know better, keeps talking about his "experience." But that's the way that these types operate. I'd think that he'd have noticed that Coleman is making a total ass of himself, and totally avoid doing the same thing, but this whole political segment seems to be immune to recognizing any mistakes.

I'm sure that Kirsten Gillibrand's vote counts. She probably had no idea where she'd be on election day, so played it safe. I ran across numerous senior citizens, while I was canvassing, who voted absentee even though they had no plans to go anywhere. Is Tedisco going to challenge all of their votes, too? Quite a few were registered Republicans who voted for Scott.

5. Not surprised at all..
Tedisco is as swarmy as they come. Hopefully this will tarnish his image enough so that he'll lose the next time he runs for the State Assembly. I live in Schenectady County and we've been stuck with him for years here.

All the absentees in Sarasota Cnty- the Cnty that was his best hope- have been counted. The remaining cntys where there are still uncounted votes favor Murphy. He has zero chance of winning this suit. fuck him.

20. Some of the comparisons down thread to Coleman are right on the money
the slimeball tactics are not exactly the same, but reminisant of some of the things his campaign and Bush's 2000 campaign did. I hope the courts laugh him out and tell him to come back when he has some real issues.

21. People with power don't just give it up. They fight to the death for it. Even if what they do
is ridiculous and obviously contrary to reason and contradictory.

Rove's playbook: Take your own weakness, and criticize the OPPONENT for having that weakness. Take a loser, and declare him the winner. It takes the meat out of the hands of the other side, when he tries to declare himself the winner. It sounds like he's just saying that because Rove's side said it first.

22. These days when Republicans lose a close election....
they tend to take it as evidence, ipso facto, that they were cheated -- by devil ACORN or who-have-you. Even so, Tedisco appears even more clownish than most in his party.

23. This whole thing could have been avoided in the first place ............
Gilibrand should have never been appointed in the first place. Patterson is turning out to be one of the worst Governors I've lived under in a state, and that's saying a lot since I grew up in Illinois.

Gilibrand will not win her reelection bid next year, I just hope we pick a good Democratic replacement and don't hand the seat over to Republicans. Patterson will more than likely lose his seat, too.

I don't know what the hell happened here in New York, but things are going to hell in a hand basket very fast.

29. She won't win. You can't win NY state without winning the city .............
and since she has received funding from the NRA, even Repubs in NYC will vote against her. Rudy G proved that outlawing guns in the city could reduce crime, and the numbers prove it.
