1. Sarah looks like a real nice lady, but the person giving her fashion advice should be shot.
I don't think MO is shown off to best advantage, either, in that get up. But what do I know about these things?

Their faces look lovely, at any rate.

62. lol, yes, they're called "tertiary colors"...
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 06:30 PM by Clio the Leo
... I know, its weird but she doesn't have to wear blue shoes because she has on a blue skirt ... or even a neutral color like brown or black.

See this....

The color of her skirt appears to be the same color that is at the 9 o'clock position. The green seems to the green right next to it. Green is obviously a combination of blue and yellow ... there's enough blue in that shade of green that it works. They're also about the same saturation.

I spend all day matching bridesmaids dresses to flowers .... all of this stuff about derivatives and banking? Confuses the heck out of me ..... now matching colors? THAT I know. :)

Green is basically a neutral color. Think of all the flowers on the earth which are every shade of the spectrum. What color are their stems? See?

Nature is always a good guide.

good going on in that last photo.

Michelle's outfit isn't that bad, but it certainly is not my favorite thing she's worn. I don't think the sweater fits her correctly, and in one of the first photos on this thread, it looks like it's buttoned wrong.

Based on the group photo, I don't think there were any fashion hits, only misses. Good thing is, it wasn't a fashion show.

And Sarah needs better foundation garments (which I despise, but if you are wearing something clingy like that....) including a better bra. One size larger on the dress would have been better, as well. I don't like the dark black hose with it either. And are her shoes a deep plum color? Almost looks like it in the photo from behind....

I like the color palette of Michell's outfit, and I love the skirt. I could live with the sweater if it just wasn't so awkward-fitting.

17. Well, you can't win them all, ladies. And this one is a big loss.
Not to go into details about why, but both outfits are fashion risks gone bad. I poked around to see if this was for a PERFORMANCE, but it seems it was just a meeting in the opera house.
I've gone to many performances, but was never dressed this poorly even if I made my own clothes which I did.

Unfortunately, I have to get ready for my job in the fashion industry (ha ha, that sounds snooty but I speak the truth!) and cant expound upon that lol .... but suffice it to say, the trend is ALL about stuff being quirky like her sweater is and the silhouette is PERFECT for her body type.

30. No offense to people in the fashion industry, but they make a living telling people to wear stupid
shit that looks really horrible, most of the time. If your clothes are perfectly serviceable, they tell you that NO, that long thing should be short, that short thing should be long, that thick thing should be thin, that dark thing must be light, that plain thing must be patterned...and all in aid of separating people from the pieces of paper in their wallets with the engravings on them!!

I can't help but notice at these fashion shows I see on the tee vee, that the designers are always wearing PLAIN BLACK clothing and have simple hairstyles (with the exception of that one guy who used to wave the fan--but even he wore black, mostly).

I prefer the stuff the designers wear themselves to the stuff that prances up and down the runways. I won't even go into the Perpetually Pissed-off Look that the models sport. I suppose if I didn't get anything to eat, I'd be pissed off, too!!!

I think Michelle Obama and Mrs. Brown are both lovely looking ladies, but, despite the fact that I am NOT a fashion expert, I think the Emperor's New Clothes approach to how they look just isn't cutting it with me. I know what pleases my eye, and that ain't it.

I think they look like they both got dressed in the dark.

36. I'd probably make them look worse!
I'll bet if they switched costumes, though, they'd BOTH look better! Mrs. Obama could probably wear that stretchy thing, and the big fluffy skirt would cover Mrs. Brown's tight underwear and lumpy butt.

I realize that sweater with the goofy side hanging down is a fashion statement, but to me, it looks like she got dressed with the lights off. Have 'em swap clothes, get a new sweater for that puffy skirt outfit, lose the black nun stockings, and they're off to the races, I'd say!

58. lol, pretty good but.......
... and I LOVE Michelle but she couldn't wear that stretchy skirt either .... about the only g-20 wife who could would be no-hiney Carla.

(And for the record, I think Michelle looks about 10,000 times better than no-hiney Carla. I'm not going to post the nude picture of Carla here, but it's not hard to find, the woman looks like a pencil with two mosquito bites. I dont generally make fun of a woman's figure, but since she's a model and being held up as an ideal .... yeah .... that's not beautiful IMO.)

Now, for the record, my FAVORITE first wife ensembles from yesterday were Mrs. South Korea.....

And Mrs. India.....

(but I think the Sari was the best bit of fashion ever invented, so I'm biased.)

However, not everything discussed here is "important."

I don't go for being MEAN about this kind of stuff, but there's nothing wrong with critiquing if one feels like it.

It's only when one starts equating clothing with character that it gets "unfunny" or cruel.

although I must say, I agree with some of the comments about Brown. Come on--Open toe pumps and opaque black stockings with a too tight, unflattering business suit? And Michelle's outfit is intriguing--I'm not into the big bubble skirt look but it's intriguing because it's different.

44. That blue thing isn't a suit! It's eighties polyester! Stretchy!
And it reveals a little too much information, unfortunately! I think MO looked better getting on the plane to go over there, myself.

I think it's fun to be the fashion police, particularly, if, like me, you don't really give a shit about fashion! It's fun to be an armchair critic! You just can't be mean about the PERSON when you critique the clothes!

71. Michelle's sweater isn't dressy enough, the other woman's suit emphasizes the stomach pooch.

49. same necklace she wore to meet the queen
This must have been a matinee -- an evening opera would require more dressy attire.

56. Oh my!
The woman with Mrs. Obama...what the heck is she wearing? Why is it so tight? There is no way I would have walked out of my house like that.

57. I'm sorry but both outfits look terrible.

I don't understand how Michelle Obama can look so good sometimes and then show up in something like this. This actually looks like one of those outfits you put together at home, then you head out in public and instantly realize it's wrong. Of course, some of it could be the photo, because they both look like their hips are about 52 inches around, which can't possibly be true.

I applaud MO's attempts to wear fun fashion, and to support new designers. But this outfit is horrible, and the shoe choice doesn't work either. The sweater would be cute with jeans, not a chambray or denim skirt, or whatever it is, that looks as if it has a crinoline underneath it. The sweater also looks like something you'd wear to a dinner at a hip, new urban restaurant.

Sarah's outfit simply does not fit her. And the stockings don't go.

59. :(
I want Michelle's shoes. I don't have a damn thing to wear them with but it would be an excuse to buy a new work outfit.
