Hillary Clinton Favorability Ratings Hit New Heights - 58%
Clinton Favorability Ratings Hit New Heights
Posted by Jennifer De Pinto | Comment On This Post
(CBS)

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is now receiving her most positive ratings since coming on to the national political scene nearly two decades ago. As she heads to London for the G-20 summit, a recent CBS News Poll conducted March 12-16 finds that 58 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of her – the highest percentage since CBS News started asking about her in 1992 and a significant improvement from when she was a candidate for president.

Throughout much of Clinton’s campaign for president, voters’ opinions were divided and often slightly more negative than positive, but since ending her presidential bid and being named Secretary of State, favorable opinions of her have risen. In fact, one year ago, just 39 percent of voters held a favorable view of Clinton.

During her time as first lady, Clinton’s favorable ratings were mostly in the 30s and 40s. Views of her were more positive during her husband, Bill Clinton’s, second term as president than his first, reflecting public support for her during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

As first lady, Clinton received her highest favorable rating (55 percent) in January 1999, shortly after the House of Representatives voted to impeach then-President Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton’s lowest favorable rating while first lady (31 percent) occurred in August 1995, following weeks of Congressional hearings on the Clintons’ Whitewater land deal.

10. The 17% undecided is quite interesting.
One might assume that nearly everyone would have preconceived notions about Hillary Clinton by now. The fact that 17% are undecided would indicate otherwise, but it would also appear to indicate that people have an open mind about her in her new role.

Very interesting.

That's so sad to me because everyone was hoping for a real new start. I doubt it will happen now.

30. I never got that "polarizing" meme.
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 07:28 PM by Beacool
Yeah, she was soooo polarizing that she got million os people to vote for her. A truly polarizing candidate wouldn't have made it past the initial primaries. Those people who kept repeating that B.S. should have met some of the volunteers I saw while campaigning:

In Reading, PA:

- A doctor from Dallas who took off from his private practice for a week to be able to volunteer because he believed so much in her healthcare plan.

- A Super delegate from Kansas who Bill personally had asked to come out and help.

- Three people from FL who drove up with crates of oranges to hand out while canvassing.

- One night two Mexican-American men came in asking for "their people". As it turns out they were businessmen from TX and 40 of them had chartered a plane to volunteer in PA. They had spread out in several cities.

- There were also individuals in that office from CA, MA, CO, most of the NE states and on weekends bus loads of people from NY and NJ.

In NJ we had in our campaign office professionals who would come after work, burly union men, high school kids, college crowd, Hispanic and Asian people who barely spoke English but still wanted to help out, a group of kids from a Yeshiva who would sneak out after school without the rabbi's permission (he finally caught them one afternoon, but ended allowing them to stay) and many more.

Now, would someone polarizing have so many people who were willing to sacrifice their time and money to volunteer for her?

I think not..........

:-)
