Obama has done many very good things, and a few bad things.
We do criticize Obama, but it is measured criticism and many people defend him. It could be so much worse, based on what he has done we could easily be delivering a constant stream of invective at him with no one trying to understand his reasons, the way other dems like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have been treated. With Obama, people acknowledge the value of compromise and political strategy and "keeping one's powder dry." With the other dems, those things are considered weakness, usually expressed with sexist language like "grow some balls."
And I'm glad that we are constantly recognizing the very good things he is doing, and how much better he is than McCain or any Republican would be. It could be worse, we could be ignoring those things, or downplaying or denying them, or greeting them with sarcasm, like DU has done with the accomplishments of other dem leaders.
I supported Hillary in the primaries, but in hindsight I'm very glad she didn't win. I can only imagine what DU would do if she suggested any hint of merit pay for teachers for example, or sided with Bush on some controversial legal opinions. To paraphrase her husband, DU would be tearing her skin off.
So I'm grateful it's Obama. Any president will need a lot of support and patience to advance his important agenda, so it's a good thing we're giving it to him even as we criticize him.
