Poll question: DU warfare and all that - where do you stand?
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 07:48 PM by Jackeens
Ran out of space on the options

Here they are in full:

1 I have faith in the President, I trust his judgement and believe he has enough venomous RW enemies without us Democrats joining in on the incessant attacks - he needs our support in these difficult times, and he gets mine. No, I won't support him blindly, but neither will I revel in his mistakes or misjudgements, as some on DU will clearly do, based on the views they have posted. I will trust that he will learn from them. I believe he is a good man, and I believe he can be a great President.

2 I support the President, and wish with all my heart that he succeeds, but I will never support him absolutely. I will remain wary because Obama is, after all, a politician - and they have a habit of letting us down. I won't be on his case continuously, I will give him time, but not too much. In DU terms I am neither a "worshiper" - as the "haters" describe the Obama supporters - nor a "hater" - as the "worshipers" describe those who constantly attack Obama. I think both sides need to get a grip.

3 I wish the President well, but he has yet to earn my support. Yes, he has done some good things, but he has generally been a disappointment and I fear he won't improve much. My sense is that all this 'change' talk was baloney - I don't see signs of change at all. I will continue to criticise him because that is my right, and, I believe, my duty.

I support the President, will continue to work for his/our agenda, and I'll keep questioning whatever doesn't make sense to me.

2. Oh, I thought you meant that other DU war, well, actually there are many...

I'll take number one on this particular poll!

He ain't perfect, but he's the best thing we could have reasonably hoped to get given the system.

4. Much faith. I remain continually impressed and pleased.
But here, among friends, I might criticize a decision or two from time to time. I don't think that makes me disloyal. I think that makes me a good citizen of the United States.

5. It's really much too early to make such a statement about the President himsefl
But I can't deny that many of the cabinet appointments - especially the Wall Street Whores he's calling an "economic team - are very troubling. He would have sent a much stronger affirmation of his "CHANGE" message if he'd put people like Robert Reich and Paul Krugman in those positions.

7. Jackeens, I usually love your threads, but this poll needed choice #4
"I'm sick of these fucking loyalty polls."

And I'm also sick and tired of all the fucking hand wringers that can't give a new administration 8 fucking weeks to sort things out.

I was so pissed about the election in 2000, but I think I let my guard down with Bush that long to see what he was going to do although my instincts told me otherwise.

Those calling for resignations, etc. right now are political novices or purists who will never be satisfied in this thing called reality and should be ignored.

Sorry, but after all these ridiculously negative posts today, I'm losing my cool.

It's the only way to be sure.

16. He really was. In any other film, that performance would have been "over the top"...
It would have been a laughable, scenery-chewing joke.
But in the context of that movie, it WORKED. It totally worked.

I sat there in the theatre and BELIEVED that he was that guy.

It was something special, Itellyawhut. :applause:

12. I strongly support President Obama, want nothing to do with
internal struggles. Democrats have traditionally been the party of dis-unity and internal squabbling - I am very amused to see the GOP's biting each other in the ass recently while my old Dems seem to be holding some unity, PUMA's or not....
Let's see if we can keep it together to defeat even more Republicans in 2010.

14. I oppose this
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 02:43 AM by Two Americas
I oppose these attempts to define the people here and to stir up hostility and antagonisms.

This just pure poison.

You have cleverly phrased this in such a way that it will do maximum damage.

If this continues, it will destroy the administration and do great damage to the party. Meanwhile the people are at great risk.

Is there no way to get you to stop doing this?

15. I'm on 1, though 1 and 2 don't really seem mutually exclusive to me,..
the way they're worded. Not so crazy about the term "faith" here, because to me that implies an irrational devotion, whereas I find that there is ample evidence for viewing Obama as credibly progressive. But I also realize that I'm uncommonly persnickety when it comes to talk of faith. I'm also mighty wary of making the perfect the enemy of the good -- big cliche, I know -- but look what the relative purism of the Nader voters helped bring about in 2000.

I'm quickly coming to the realization that DU sucks and is full of people who take the Internets far too seriously, and isn't worth my time (except for reading the Lounge posts). Yet for some reason I can't stop coming back. ;(
