The new Stock Market Trading Signal: Racing the Great Depression

As of yesterday the sock market sell-off was worse, day-by-day, than the great depression bear market. Today we get a nice up day.

We have surpassed the great depression line a few times recently but each time pulled back above it with short-term rallies.

Since all the traders are flummoxed looking for signals that work in this market, might as well add the "racing the great depression" metric to the mix. It's silly but has a better track record than things like the 200 day moving average and traditional "over-sold" measures. (As the joke on the NYSE floor went last week, "The market hasn't been this over-sold since tomorrow."
