1. Botanical drawings. Who doesn't like science, naturalism and art?
Or an historical relic.
If anybody's been to the NY Metropolitan museum, how crazy is it that the Egyptian government gave us a tomb!

4. 25 DVDs of Classic American Movies is something I'd love to have
It say "America" and provides hours of entertainment!

Though giving him Joe Lieberman would have gotten us rid of a jerk! But I don't hate the British that much (in spite of an Irish background).

6. The DVDs was a great gift.
Remember when the media poked fun at Michelle for bringing a gift to Laura Bush when the two couples got together prior to the inauguration?

This time it's Barack showing excellent judgment. Enough of these pretentious gifts (or bribes) by members of the old boys club. Obama treated Brown like an ordinary human being, no better and no worse.

19. As I posted in another discussion, the major problem with those
selfsame DVDs may be that they cannot be played anywhere outside North America. And when I last checked, the UK was still not part of North America, LOL.

Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

So long as Obama's team did some proper vetting and purchasing, things should be fine. Otherwise, they may have to send someone to the UK to purchase a set that Brown can actually watch.

I'd be happy to volunteer for the job, so long as my travel expenses are paid ... . But they could also check out http://www.amazon.co.uk/ and have playable DVDs sent directly to Brown. Perhaps they can even get discounts as well as free shipping.

Just sayin'

20. Region Coding on DVDs is defubct.
I have a load of region one DVDs. They work fine. Almost all DVD players in the UK are multi region. So it is not an issue. Now if they were Blu Ray it would have been.

7. A kick in the ass, just as the British voters are poised to do!
Brown was Blair's lapdog, and he has botched the job since he became PM.

Brown should step down as party leader before elections.

18. Brown inherited Blair's mess just as President Obama
has inherited Dubya's. The major problem is that both Blair and Brown are members of the same political party. Brown lacks Blair's charisma (Poodle let a LOT of people down) and Labour has been splintering politically for years, largely as a result of Blair's extremely unpopular alignment with Dubya's insane foreign policies.

Blair and his enablers managed to do the near-impossible, turn many post-Thatcher British liberals into those who despise Labour's politics and policies. Blair's enablers are still a-plenty in the government; they have never liked Brown and will do anything to bring him down, even if it means losing the PM slot. The Tories have not been more successful in that so far because they have no charismatic leader. Bad memories of the Thatcher era also remain strong. But they are steadily increasing their representation in Parliament.

I think what Brown would most like is a few solid banks, but Obama hasn't got any either.

21. Brown was given the gift he wanted.
He was able to address Congress. One of a very select list of British PMs that have. Brown will of course use that his advantage to try and help repair his poll numbers.
