I sent an email to Obama
Edited on Fri Mar-06-09 06:47 PM by MoonRiver
asking him to reverse Salazar's order about lifting the endangered species classification for wolves. Please do the same. Also contribute to Defenders of Wildlife. Please help to be a voice for the voiceless.

4. I do not believe Obama has turned his back on Wildlife. He simply
made a POOR CHOICE in the Interior top position. How can that be remedied?

5. I think Salazar has to do what Obama wants.
Obama needs to know how serious an issue this is for his base. He can reign in Salazar, no problem. If not, then replace him.

8. It depends who you ask.
Salazar's friends who trade in hunting and cattle only want the wolves to go away. Read how the Governor of Idaho responded to
the de-listing decision.

"Idaho and Montana already have crafted plans for public hunts to keep wolf populations in check. There are no immediate plans for hunts in the western Great Lakes, which has nearly 4,000 wolves.

Idaho Gov. C.L. Butch Otter on Friday repeated his desire to get the first available wolf hunting tag in the state so he can try to shoot one of the animals.

"The fish and game population is really counting on a robust population of trophy animals to maintain that part of our economy," he said."

And I ask if the wolf has just reach the numbers to come off the ESL, why are numbers that need to be slaughtered immediately?

"On the other hand the Sierra Club has expressed concerns that slaughtering these animals will weaken their gene pool for the long run.
Less than two hours after Salazar’s announcement, the Sierra Club sent out a press release saying: “The state plans could threaten the long-term survival of the gray wolf in the Northern Rockies, especially given the genetic isolation of wolves throughout the recovery area. Aggressive wolf-killing practices, coupled with genetic isolation and plans to institute hunts in Idaho and Montana, could push wolf numbers dangerously low and reverse decades of recovery work. The Sierra Club, along with other conservation groups, plans to challenge the wolf delisting decision in court.”

9. Thanks. Are there any statistics on how many cattle, sheep, etc., are
killed by wolves? I'm just trying to determine if this is being done because Salazar's friends like to hunt or whether they have an honest concern.

There was a post on DU recently about wild pigs being killed in TX and I don't know that there was such a reaction.

10. I found this link in Google.
http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/12/wolves_kill_more_livestock_in.html">Link

"Wolves in Idaho have killed 325 cattle, sheep and dogs so far in 2008, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game says.

The reported kills through Nov. 24 -- 212 sheep, 100 cattle and 13 dogs -- are 47 more than in all of 2007."

Interesting the first responder to this article makes a valid point. Let's reimburse the losses, rather than kill the wolves
who remember mate for life and live in families and help support the balance of nature in these wild areas of our country.

The real agenda for these people is that they do not respect the Federal Government, the EDA, or the balance of nature.
They feel the wolves, that their ancestors wiped out, are being once again, shoved down their throats and they can't wait
to remedy the situation. (I do not live in one of these states, but I have close connections there and I have had discussions
about this issue with people who live there.)

7. I sent one as well.
As your ardent supporter, I am deeply saddened and surprised to learn that your Interior Secretary is removing the gray
wolf from the Endangered Species Act. This policy directive will only benefit states that gave you little support and
no electoral votes in 08 and are unlikely to do so in 12, Idaho and Montana.

Environmental groups do not agree with this action. They know that removing this protection from the wolves means
slaughter and lots of it. The genetic base of the wolf population could be weakened further, endangering their long-term future.
The wolves will be hunted with a vengeance as they are hated by many in these states, until it will become necessary to re-list them.
In the meantime much violence will have been done to these beautiful creatures whose only sin is that they compete with hunters
and ranchers who wish to use the public lands that belong to all of us as if these lands belonged only to them.

We, who support the environment are among your strongest supporters. We had to watch the environment
dismantled by the Bush Administration for the benefit of the commercial interests in this country.
With your administration, we had hoped that our neglected environment would once again be protected from these
interests. While I recognize you share with us a commitment to improving our environment in many ways,
this action is contrary to what I would have expected. And knowing the Secretary Salazar has deep ties with the
hunting and cattle industries, I further question the scientific validity of this policy. I hope that you and your
administration will reconsider this decision in the interest of our natural environment and future generations of Americans.

Thank you for listening,

and they're doing a lot for the environment so if many people write on on not liking what Salazar has done then they should at least acknowledge it.
