The Public stays Patient with the Barack Obama on the issue of the Economy!
Edited on Fri Mar-06-09 03:10 PM by FrenchieCat
President Obama has been in office 44 days, and his stimulus package was signed into law on February 18, 2009.....16 days ago, and yet the media is now "wondering" just how long the American people will exercise patience with the manner in which the economy is being handled.

The polls, since Barack Obama's elections to this day have clearly shown that the American public is willing to give Barack Obama at least a good year prior to judging him on his handling of the economy. Unfortunately, the media led by the Republicans have decided that 44 days in office, and 16 days after the stimulus has passed is ample time for Obama to have turned the Economy around, and are more than willing to instigate blaming this new President Obama for our current economic wows.

11/25/08
"The economy's likely to get worse before it gets better. Full recovery will not happen immediately," Obama said Monday.

How much time will voters give the new president to turn things around? With the magnitude of the crisis sinking in, the public may be giving the future president some breathing room.

Analysis: How long does Obama have to fix the economy?

When Ronald Reagan took over, the unemployment rate was just over 7 percent. When Bill Clinton took over, the unemployment rate was just over 7 percent. What's the unemployment rate now, when Barack Obama's about to take over? Just over 7 percent.
snip
During Reagan's first two years, the economy got a lot worse -- double-digit unemployment by the end of 1982, at the time of the midterm election.
snip
Conclusion? Obama can expect midterm grades in two years, and final grades at the end of four. Another conclusion: Grades are based on many subjects, not just the economy.

NYTimes Poll: Obama Holds Americans' Confidence and Patience

January 17, 2009

President-elect Barack Obama is riding a powerful wave of optimism into the White House, with Americans confident he can turn the economy around but prepared to give him years to deal with the crush of problems he faces starting Tuesday, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll.

the Wall Street Journal yesterday reported,

President Barack Obama enjoys widespread backing from a frightened American public for his ambitious, front-loaded agenda, a new poll indicates.

He is more popular than ever, Americans are hopeful about his leadership, and opposition Republicans are getting drubbed in public opinion, the new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll suggests. …

How long will Americans wait for economic change?
By JULIE PACE – 8 hours ago
March 6, 2008

The poll found that 72 percent of Americans believe it will take more than a year to see any noticeable improvement in the economy. An NBC-Wall Street Journal poll out this week found a similar sentiment, with two-thirds saying Obama has more than a year to turn the economy around before people start holding him responsible.

The president himself is calling for patience, saying repeatedly that he's more concerned with putting the country on a path toward long-term financial stability than finding a quick fix.

"What I'm looking for is not the day-to-day gyrations of the stock market, but the long-term ability for the United States and the entire world economy to regain its footing," Obama said this week.

But why are notoriously impatient Americans willing to give the president so much breathing room?

Darrell West, director of governance studies at the Brookings Institution, said Obama is not only benefiting from the honeymoon period often afforded new presidents, but also the extraordinary scope of the economic problems.

"I think people are going to be a little more patient this time around," West said. "They understand that President Obama inherited this, he did not create this problem."

My point is that our glorious media is the one instigating an all out effort at eroding the patience of the American people.

WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SAY...

3/4/09
When Will Voters Blame Obama?
Buried in the latest NBC/WSJ survey (.pdf) is a question asking voters who they blame for the country's economic problems. Currently, 8 percent of voters say that Obama's policies are "mostly responsible" for the poor economy and another 6 percent blame him in part. But the longer the crisis lasts, the less patient voters will be:

The public has very low expectations for the economy —
the average voter is more pessimistic about the economy
than all but the most pessimistic economists.
And it will be quite some time yet before the public pins
most of the blame for the economy on Obama. …

1. The corporate media is peddling fear
Either they have orders to instill fear in the American people or they no longer know how to do anything else.

2. It is a concerted effort done by willful collusion.
It is too convenient that 2 days after a poll showing that the American people continue to excercise patience with President Obama on the economy, the media attempts to blame Barack Obama for the economy. That's not an accident.

Some people like standing on a stupid soapbox and spouting untruthful crud. Thank you for posting this information and we need to slam corporate media. The media today is like a set of parrots who learned the same thing..."down with Obama..." Further more, it takes time for things to get done.

I'm surprised you didn't put that fool Pat Buchanan on your list..but him and Scarborough are synonymous...idiots.

19. I couldn't agree more
Too many people here are not giving the Obama administration any credit for what they are trying to do to turn the economy around. It's a tough job, and it's going to take some time.

8. Personally, I think this recession will fully bottom out late this year, and begin recovery early
next year at a gradual pace.

January 2011 is when I'm thinking we'll be mostly out of it.

21. It's really disgusting. Even my 20 yr old kid noticed that every
news station was hammering the "he's not doing enough" crap today. They won't be satisfied until his poll numbers start to lower. I don't watch as much as I used to. It's not good for my mental health.
