Maureen Dowd lies about Obama's position on earmarks.
Today, the highly superficial, corny, lying, Democrat-hating, poisonous snake who goes by the name of Maureen Dowd, wrote a column criticizing every Democrat and his mom for the $7.7 billion worth of earmarks in the $410 spending bill set to be passed by Congress.
Here is the link: http://mobile.nytimes.com/article?a=335219&f=28&sub=Columnist

First of all, she flat-out lies in the following paragraph:

In one of his disturbing spells of passivity, President Obama decided not to fight Congress and live up to his own no-earmark pledge from the campaign.

That is false. Barack Obama NEVER promised to reduce earmarks to zero. What he promised was to bring earmarks to their 1994 levels, that is, less than 7.8 billion a year. Whether earmarks can be kept at tis level this year is a different story, but saying that Obama pledge zero earmarks is dishonest. Read this: http://obama.3cdn.net/0080cc578614b42284_2a0mvyxpz.pdf

Hello New York Times editors, anybody home? Is there anyone fact-checking this crap?

That's not all. Dowd went on to list the amount of earmarks associated with Hilda Solis, Rahm Emmanuel, and Hillary Clinton, but said NOTHING about the many earmarks requested by Republicans.

In contrast, the Washington Post reported yesterday that
"Sen. Thad Cochran (Miss.), the top Republican on the Appropriations Committee, has co-sponsored the largest amount of earmarks for the second straight year."

Moreover, "Of the 10 largest spenders in terms of special-interest provisions, six are Republicans and four are Democrats," the same WAPO piece observed.

As the data shows, the pursuit of earmarks is a bipartisan practice; but in Dowd's world, Democrats bear the entire load. The only Republican mentioned in Maureen Dowd's article is John McCain, whom she portrays as a hero.

Wanna know where the most wasteful spending can be found, if you asked me? Maureen Dowd's pay check.

1. Time to reinstitute revenue-sharing
and end the mindless bloviating from the hypocritical lunatic fringe repukes about "pork" and "earmarks" that ARE, for the most part, "revenue sharing". They are essentially alot of sound and fury signifying nothing.

The taxpayer contributes to the federal gov't and should be able to get back in goods and services that which might benefit their domicile.

2. No surprise here
Maureen Dowd will say anything. All she is interested in doing is promoting Maureen Dowd. I can never understand why she is so well liked here. What she writes belongs in a gossip column; how she ever got a job writing for the NYTImes is beyond me.

4. I see that MoDo strikes again.
Interesting how she is now turning on the man who she spoke of in superlative terms during the election. Now she prefers McCain? Also interesting how she wouldn't name one Republican, as if earmarks were only sought by the Democrats. Not interesting, but par for the course, is how she took a swipe at Hillary. There are people who actually keep count of the ways that she manages to interject either Clinton in her rants, regardless of the topic of her column.

MoDo, intelligent and well read woman, but nasty as they come.......

12. She spoke highly of him many times in her columns.
Though she did view him as being naive, ergo the "Obambi" epithet.

10. She praised Obama while he was battling Hillary
since she absolutely despises her. Now that Obama is in power, she appears to have turned on him like the viper that she is, but still manages to take a swipe here and there at her favorite foe.

9. I always had a theory about MoDo.
I think that she had the hots for Bill and was jealous of Hillary. Her vitriol against them crosses the line from the impersonal journalist to the personal. I remember reading an article once about why some people disliked Hillary. It was an eye opener to hear that some women who didn't like her resented her for being Bill's wife.

:(

14. Shit, she managed to fill an entire book with her resentment
Her book "Are Men Necessary" was supposedly nothing but a whine about her inability to get a man.

17. Well, who would like to hang around her?
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 12:55 PM by Beacool
She's an attractive and well educated woman, but who would want to be around someone as bitter as she? Michael Douglas was smart enough to dump her and I get the feeling that he wasn't the only one.

Her dislike of Hillary, like Dick Morris', is pathological and highly personal. In Dick's case, the hooker who he was toe sucking said that he had sexual fantasies about Hillary (giant EWWWWW!!!!) and I guess that he turned those unfulfilled fantasies into hatred. Ditto for MoDo, but with regard to Bill. The rumor around the political water cooler in NY was that she would have been more than willing to be his Monica if he had bothered to look her way.

Maureen needs to get a life of her own, until then she'll be nothing but a sad little woman, more to be pitied than despised.

Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 01:43 PM by Uzybone
I'm sure the folks who live down wind of the pig farms in Iowa welcome the $1.7 million in "pork"

Earmarks are such a stupid issue.

And Dowd is one of the most stupid people in our media today. She has been a wreck since the late 90's.

27. Obama said he would eliminate earmarks
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 09:06 AM by joeglow3
There was a video of him saying this dated January 6th. However, it was a quick clip, so I don't know the context of it.

ON EDIT: Based on research I did (I could not find the clip) it looks like he may have solely been referencing the stimulus bill.
