2. True, if you are in Los Angeles, there is no train to Disneyland
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 03:03 PM by Cronus Protagonist
Which I pointed out to some Japanese tourists the other day who thought they could walk to Disneyland from downtown Los Angeles.

27. They will not be mugged going through South Central from downtown to Disneyland
they might be mugged going through East LA, though.

18. Not really. You simply said there was no train in LA to Disneyland.
Were there a train in LA to Disneyland, it would be taking people from LA to Anaheim in OC...which was my point: Disneyland is in Orange County, not LA County.

One can get the Metrolink OC line from Union Station to Anaheim. The Anaheim station is at the A's Stadium, which is 3 miles from D-land.

22. Actually I have taken a train to Disneyland from San Diego. But it doesn't go to the front gate.
You get off the train and take a shuttle to Disneyland.
It's great for locals who just want a day without driving on the 5.

I have no idea if the train continues to LA (probably) and if those in LA have the same departure option near Disneyland.

7. Want some irony? I grew up by Dineyland, and when I was a kid,
there was a heliport at the Disneyland Hotel that ran a regular helicopter shuttle from LAX to Disneyland. I don't know who paid how much for the service, but it was a regular several flight a day operation. Not relevant to the current conversation, but I find it interesting.

25. OMG I can still remember both of the crashes.
In '68 I lived in Norwalk, and one helicopter crashed in Paramount killing 23 and a couple of months later another one crashed in Compton killing 21.

Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 03:13 PM by cottonseed
I believe the $8 bil is for California's high speed rail projects. Nothing is explicitly stated regarding this particular route in the bill.

Basically, any statement regarding the route at this moment would just be speculation -- or lying.

14. Both Vegas and Disneyland have a monorail, though.
The difference is that the one at Disneyland opened in 1959 and is still running. The one in Vegas opened in 1995 and is about to go into default.

13. Considering that 35-million people visit Vegas and 14-million visit Disneyland each year
ya gotta wonder why the Rs are so adamant about spewing their lie about a train connecting the two. Seems they're dumping on two of the most-popular spots to visit in the whole world. What do they think they're going to gain from that?

And these are the same guys who defended Ted Steven's fucking bridge to nowhere.

Unfuckingbelieveable.

16. Disneyland already has a train that goes to another "city of sin"
Yep, the Monorail stops at New Orleans Square. It also goes to Tomorrowland, another place Republicans hate.

21. The monorail does not stop at NO Sq in Disneyland.
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 03:54 PM by stopbush
It makes two stops: Downtown Disney and above the Finding Nemo submarine ride which sits in Tomorrowland.

However, the Disneyland RR that circles the park does stop at NE Sq, as well as Main Street, Toontown and Tomorrowland.

Yeah, I've got an annual pass and I'm there almost every weekend with the kids.

29. Sez who???

Disneyworld already has ITS OWN monorail system that it paid for ITSELF.

It's a shame we can't get the State of Florida / Central Florida governments to create a partnership to extend it throughout Central Florida to the other attractions, to go downtown Orlando, to the space center, to the space coast beaches like Cocoa Beach and Indiatlantic and the west coast beaches like St. Pete beach, to the cruise ship ports in Cocoa Beach and in Tampa, to downtown Tampa, to the Daytona raceway, to major universities like UCF, to major sporting venues in Tampa and Orlando and to the major area airports like Orlando, Tampa, St. Pete, Melbourne, Sanford, and Daytona and to connecting points with Amtrak.

Of course Disney doesn't want to make it easier for people to live their "Magic Kingdom" and spend money elsewhere and the car rental people don't want to make it easy for tourists to avoid renting cars.

They are trying to get both commuter rail along the I4 corridor here and high speed rail (which the voters voted into the Constitution a few years back) but powerful forces keep standing in the way.

The Disney monorail system would be a great starting point though and it would really help eliminate a lot of tourist traffic from our already crowded roads.
