Republicans put forth a fresh face of opposition

WASHINGTON - For their first official response to a speech by President Obama, Republicans counterprogrammed with a young, cerebral newcomer, able to cite his own multigenerational immigrant narrative and summon from it a "Yes, we can"-style catch phrase.

"As I grew up, my mom and dad taught me the values that attracted them to this country - and they instilled in me an immigrant's wonder at the greatness of America," Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, the country's first South Asian state chief executive, said last night from Baton Rouge.
...

"What makes him so appealing to Republicans is he's an Indian-American representing a Southern state," said Louisiana State University professor Robert Mann, who evoked the party's recent election of its first African-American leader. "A lot of it is the same reason they elected Michael Steele their chair: They're looking to push out in front any bit of diversity they can dredge up."

Can't wait to see the Aussie media, though!

4. I was really starting to feel bad for him for taking
such a beating in the media. ha! I needn't have worried. He'll be able to find favorable reviews to keep his flawed self image alive.

"cerebral"? Did anyone notice that?!

13. I Believe the "Cerebral" Description
comes from this Rhodes scholarship. He's not a dumb guy. Just didn't give a good speech.

5. Republicans think that we are stupid and shallow
The reason Obama is so well liked hs nothing to do with the color of his skin. It is because of what he says and how he says it.

Republicans think, oh, they have a black leader - we need a black leader, or a diversity candidate. Just like Palin - oh, we need a woman - they don't consider what the person says or does, just how they look.

12. WORD!
Yep, they are all hat and no cattle, STILL.

GOP thinks marketing is the end all/be all. They did NOT get the meaning of last November at all.

15. Bingo.
They have nothing of substance to offer so their priority is making it APPEAR as if they do.

"Look! We've changed! We're not a party of old white men anymore!"

Their cheap paint job is already peeling. Shoulda hired a union painter. :)

8. i wonder what kind of childhood jindal had.
because obama lived a tough life. no father around, single mother, struggled a lot. and i think obama's story connects him with people. he has lived on food stamps. he's struggled with his identity. I wonder what jindal has experienced that might make me think he knows what i go through everyday.

14. I'm sorry, but their idea of diversity seem like caricatures!
Michael "Hip-hop, bling-bling" Steele, Jindal, Palin, Alan Keyes. Geesh.

:eyes:

I used to think they were extraordinarily dangerous; now they are extraordinarily pathetic, albeit if the majority of people don't see how pathetic they are, they continue to be dangerous.

16. Hey, GOP. You've got the hip-hop thing going, now maybe Bobby can work up a Bollywood number for ya.
You know, since now your party is so diverse and cutting-edge and all ...

17. This must have been written before the speech was delivered.
There's no way this account fits with what was aired. I heard one Republican talking head on the radio this morning say he was grateful the delivery was so poor because it masqueraded the lack of content.
