Best Moment: When Republicans Started Clapping When Obama Mentioned The National Debt
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 02:20 AM by Median Democrat
Then, he notes with a wry smile that it was a trillion dollar deficit that he "inherited" with a tiny bit of emphasis and irony that was just perfect. The Democrats than started whooping hollaring at the subtle smackdown of the GOP.

I mean talk about setting up a rhetorical trap. The President knew that the GOP was waiting to applaud on a reference to fiscal responsibility, as though they know a thing about it. Then he slams the door in their face by noting that he inherited the deficit.

You would think that with advance copies of the speech that the Republicans would know better, but I am assuming that most of them had not had time to read the speech 20 minutes before it was given or someone would have shouted, "It's a TRAP!"
