Oh, For Heaven's sake, is This The Change we were promised?
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 01:03 AM by FrenchieCat
Cause if it is, I'm liking it!---> WASHINGTON -- President Obama late this afternoon nominated Harvard professor Ashton B. Carter, a leading authority on arms control, to take on a surprising new role, according to top administration officials -- as the Pentagon's chief weapons buyer.

The choice of Carter to run the office that oversees hundreds of billions of dollars for new weapons and research -- and the focus of intense lobbying by defense firms, retired generals, and members of Congress -- has been rumored for weeks. And word of his pending nomination has already sparked concern within the defense industry and some of the Pentagon bureaucracy.
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2009/02/harvard_expert.html

Didn't see the 25 threads on the good news; only one.

So I thought I'd start one!

:woohoo:

Plus, I turned on my Television tonight, and was overwhelmed on what to watch. Should I watch that extra good looking Liberal George Clooney on Larry King talking about meeting our President and his Vice President at the White House, learning that the WH is naming an Invoy to the WH on Darfur?
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/02/clooney----obam.html

or should I watch the Green Energy panel on C-Span showing right now with Steven Chu, Al Gore, Van jones, Salazar, Robert Kennedy Jr, Al Gore and Bill Clinton?

National Clean Energy Summit
Monday
The Center for American Progress Action Fund held a forum on “National Clean Energy Project: Building the New Economy.” Fmr. Pres. Clinton, Fmr. V.P. Gore and Congressional leaders Sen. Reid (D-NV) & Speaker of the House Pelosi (D-CA) participated in discussions on integrating new resources for an energy-efficient society.

WHAT A QUANTRY! :applause:

And earlier today, I watched President Obama address a panel on Fiscal Health....
and later he conducted a Q&A in which he was more than magnificent.
http://www.c-span.org/Watch/watch.aspx?ProgramId=HP-A-40805

That's right, you've got it, I'm drinking the KoolAid straight out of the jug! No Problem.

So the naysayers can kiss my ass,
cause they'll have to wait for another day!
and there's way more Change a comin'!

I'm dancing to Earth Wind & Fire! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jLGa4X5H2c&feature=related

7. I saw some of the C-SPAN / Obama...
Wow, what a difference... Our President can actually complete a sentence, inject a coherent thought, and manage.

I know a lot of tough decision will need to be made during the upcoming years, and I am glad we have someone so thoughtful as a leader.

10. Those who have faith in our President will not be disappointed.....
as long as they are willing to give him the time that he needs, instead of analysing every single move he makes.

I was watching this program on C-span 3 this weekend, where a panel was discussing the reading list Obama has furnished them. Instead of discussing the actual books listed, they were spycho-analysing President Obama as though there was nothing better to do. They were trying to predict his future as the type of President he would be based on their opinions about some of the things he, Obama, had himself written. I kept saying to myself, "Why don't these overthinking fuckers just wait like six months and give him a chance in the meantime!"....and that is when I realized that some people have nothing better to do than to prejudge, second guess, predict, analyze and speculate as things happen at the way beginning. Too bad, because it could have been a fascinating program if they would have discussed the books that he gave them a list of....considering that the panel was situated in a bookstore. :eyes:

I, too, think that the micro-managing Barack's every move is...
well...silly.

The majority of Americans still stand behind our president, no matter how much hate and lies the opposition spews. They're starting to realize this. The tide is turning.

The Fiscal summit today was incredible. I hope to see more meetings like that in the future.

I think, "Damn! We must be a lot smarter than I thought we were if we elected him!" :)

I had some reservations on some issues - and still do - but I am enormously proud of him. Having him at the helm at a difficult time like this takes some of the fear out of it. I don't know how bad things will get, but I am confident we have the best man for the job in the job.

I'm a realist and drink no one's koolaid. In this age, we need a citizen democracy movement to counteract the special interests. It doesn't mean anything beyond that.

What cojones! He's far beyond any leader I've ever experienced; already the best President since Roosevelt (hey - think we can change that 2 term limit thing? :) ) and a once in a lifetime leader. I'm incorporating his style of leadership and communication into my professional communication and work style. His and Michelle's.

34. Let's talk a little more about your "kiss my ass" offer.
I love your posts and appreciate your optimism. I strongly support the aggressiveness of President Obama and I have limited optimism. I will be happier when I see actual results. It's one thing to promise to close Guantanamo, it's quite another to see it actually closed. Same for Iraq and lots of other things. I will be happy when the bush crime family gets the punishment they deserve.

Not at all happy with today's news that Pres Obama is appointing Gary Locke to be in charge of commerce. Locke is a died in the wool international corporate free trader. Free trade is killing this country.

Stay cool, Ms. Cat.

Its been great watching him step in and confirm my high hopes for him.

55. I almost started a thread re this, but I think I can post it here: the most fundamental change is:
I am no longer a "focus group" I feel my opinion matters, and I have a president who's confident enough and secure enough in his own convictions that he could listen to me, or anyone else who disagrees on either side, and concede where he thinks I'm right, or be firm when he doesn't.

I, like so many here, am a Kucinich liberal, and I knew Barack was going to implement many policies that would get me screaming (just treated those bastard Repigs like they have validity is enough to drive me crazy) but I'll never get the feeling he's talking down to me, condescending or bullying me like I have in the last eight years.

And I'm no hero worshipper, but let me tell ya: I was in Sydney for 10 days, and just came back to Honolulu on Sunday. Coming thru customs, and seeing Obama's pic where Bush's used to hang almost brought me to tears all over again.

As long as we feel someone is listening to us, someone cares that our voices are heard and cares that all Americans get an equal say, then change IS the word of the day and we can all get behind that!

67. ...and speaking of change!!
Help www.end22.com change the 22 Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Currently the 22 Amendment limits presidential term limits to two terms. I'm not saying President Obama should be President for life, what I am saying is we the people of the US had our rights hijacked in 1947 when a Republican Congress passed this Amendment. We should have the right to elect whom ever we deem fit to lead. Can you imagine if Clinton could have run again. He would have killed Bush. Even Reagan, while I did not agree with most of his policies, would have had a chance to run again. It is widely believed the only reason we made it through the great depression and WWII is the steady leadership of FDR, he was elected to four terms. I am aware he was just sworn in, and who knows if President Obama turns out be the president we all believe he will be. But if he does turn out to be the great leader I personally think he is, we should have the option of asking him to serve us again in 2016.

74. Sounds good!
Grudging happiness. Ok, another good appointment. As far as I know, which admittedly isn't far. But a strong hand is surely needed in this post. I hope Mr. Carter is up to the job and can't be bought off.
