GOP thinks they've got it wrapped up!

One of my coworkers is a mid-level GOP operative, and has said this morning that last night's GOP Virginia conference call has Bush already winning and the GOP focussing on the Senate...

I think they are grossly underestimating the extra-poll-ar voters that will landslide this for Kerry, but does this smack of over-confidence or what?

Your co-worker was obvious told to say that. If they keep insisting that the election's a done deal, maybe can demoralize enough Kerry supporters into believing it, and divert attention from Bush's AWOL problems at the same time. That's why Bush has mysteriously "gaining" in so many state polls lately.

I can't say I know any GOPops who are saying anything different about the race. It's sort of endearing, in a way.

That's why I didn't want the polls to show a Kerry lead this far ahead of Nov. Leading in the polls causes people to think they don't have to go to the polls. It's a lock anyway, so why should I bother. That's just what I want the Pubs to think!

It also gets the Dems angered enough to GO vote!

It's an effort to demoralize the opposition. They pulled it in 2000. Remember Rove saying they would win around 320 electoral votes and they had Bush campaigning in California the last week. It;s a mind game with them. Pay no attention!

Hell they did that the night of the 2000 election-depicting W as the winner and Gore as trying to upset the democratic process which of course was 180 degrees from the truth.

They love to portray W (and any candidate) as being on top of the mountain and undefeatable. Of course they also tried to make him look like a pilot and we know how that turned out.

Now we are hearing "Is it over?" "How bad IS the Kerry campaign" and they dusted off the "CAN anyone beat Bush?" articles and reprinted them.

But I think the polls are missing a lot of voters who used to be "unlikely" but are this year so pissed off at Bush that they are very "likely". I'm talking the 18-30 vote will be huge this year and make it fairly decisive for Kerry (who's big selling point with these voters is that he's not Bush).

17. Lord they are starting to believe their own talk radio

As I used to listen to Hannity on the way home and flip over to Fox News (all the same really) I noticed several months ago that they were reassuring everyone that things would be okay. It seems that they spent most of their effort stopping the base (s) from freaking out. Well guess what, even the Wall Street Journal today had to admit (the news dept. not op/ed) that the race is completely tied nationally.

It looks like they are counting on huge military votes and that the middle will stay with W. Sound familiar? Warner winning in 2001?

Lots of Dem efforts in the far SW Virginia area (just like Warner) and the middle is as fed up with W as anyone. That being said there is going to be an ARMY of fundamentalists hitting the NoVa neighborhoods soon.

Lots of work left for us to do.

Dyed-in-the-wool freeper I used to work with is absolutely convinced the election is a slam dunk for Bush. He feels the Republican party has more in common with the "average" American. You know, the average American who thinks that abortion should be illegal, that anyone should be able to own any gun they want, etc.

if they show they are confident and aren't overly eager to shore up anymore voters...then they will be surprised when Kerry wins it..I want them to feel good and happy NOW...to give them a big blow come November...some of the voters that might of been motivated to turn out and vote for * might decide..what is the point he is going to win anyway...we will continue to work hard however
