"If you ever show up at MY house with THAT t-shirt on, we'll kick you out!
"

THAT is what one of my son's "friends" said to him yesterday at school. My son wore a t-shirt that has a "peace" sign on it and underneath it it says "It's a lot cheaper."

The kid said my son would be kicked out of his house because John Kerry called HIS dad a "baby killer." His dad was in Vietnam, was a Marine and almost killed. The entire family believes the smearboat liars.

I told my son to be sure and explain to this little shit that John Kerry did no such thing. John Kerry was telling stories related to him by Nam Vets who witnessed the crimes and by those who committed them. He NEVER called anyone any such thing.

This is the same family who said to my son that "Kerry has no idea what "regular" people go through on a day to day basis because he's wealthy and has been driven around by limo drivers his entire life." Like the chimp doesn't have a silver spoon? :grr:

This is the dad who sent his oldest son, 15 years old, to Military boot camps all summer long, for fun. The kid wants to be a Marine, just like dad and dad is helping him achieve that goal. DAD was almost killed in Vietnam and wants his son to be a Marine and fight for BUSH????? Damn, these people are NUTS!

1. Your son should tell his friend
"I'm sorry you feel that way."

I think it's great the you and your son talk enough that something like this would come up in conversation. Coach him with some talking points (the one about Kerry never called his friend's dad a baby killer is a good one), and help him where you can, but I advise that you let your son work this out on his own terms. It's tempting to get involved directly, but your son will strengthen and understand his own position much better and be able to communicate it to others if given the opportunity to do it on his own.

Trust him. You raised him.

5. He and this particular friend
debate politics all the time. Well, actually, my son debates politics with anyone willing to listen to him. ;) I would not intervene unless the kid said this to me directly. I gave my son the talking points on the "baby killer" remark so, I'm sure he'll fill his friend in on the facts. He's not shy about it. I thought the kids remark was over the top, but, unfortunaely, he's probably telling the truth. The entire family hates Kerry. :(

7. Sounds like you have a handle on it
And your son sounds like he's well on his way to being a mature, sensitive, young man who will make you very proud indeed.

2. Your son should make his "friend" prove it
Let him run home to Dad and see if he can actually provide any evidence to back it up. We'll be waiting.

3. I think these people are beyond help
They've OD'ed on the Kool-aid and nothing's gonna change that.

As for the 'silver spoon' thing, he should remind him how many generations of blue bloods there are in the Bush family. And ask just how Junior got the cushy job in the TANG in the first place.

Ask if Dubya ever fought in Vietnam.

Ask how Dubya made his fortune, when the only company he ever ran was a failed oil company.

Ask how he bought a baseball team for less than a million dollars.

I'm all for personal liberties and less government intrusion in our lives, but sometimes this is a compelling arguement for intelligence testing to become a parent.

4. Your son should wear a different shirt to their house
Front "There have been more gay marriages created under the Bush administration then jobs"

Back "What exactly are Bush's priorities"

6. I asked my son
"So, what shirt will you wear the next time you visit his house?" My son said..."What do you think? My peace shirt!" :7 I had to laugh. These are 11 year olds, BTW.

8. Didn't Repukes hate Vietnam?
They're always calling it "Kennedy/Johnson's war".

The protestors at the time seemed to echo the anti-war sentiment at the time. Wouldn't it be fun to go through all the arrest records of the time and see which ones are now in office as Repukes and how many donate heavily to the Repukes?

9. Why the hell would your son be associating himself with people like this?
Their belief system borderlines on cultish. I mean I can't see a parent allowing their child to hang around with known drug dealer. Instead we have this so called friend raised in a household that spits on democracy and demeans the very people they say they represent ( sift boat liars, purple heart band aids etc. ). This goes beyond trying to influence others to come away from the darkside. This is a point of just staying away from creeps like this!

17. They don't hang around together
like they USE to. Every now and then they will get together, but it USE to be a daily get together. They were very good friends until politics came into it. I think my son is figuring this stuff out on his own. He is seeing for himself who has empathy and who doesn't. Those who don't, he's not very fond of. I like that. He's deciding for himself the kind of people he wants in his life. This relationship will go to the wayside very soon, me thinks. :hi:

19. I didn't mean to get bent out of shape.
I use to talk things thru with others who were voting repuke but for awhile now, I know that anyone and I mean anyone who would even consider voting for this fascist bastard in the white house comes from a place that is beyond dark. I totally separated myself from these pieces of shit now. Sometimes my wanting to strike out at these fuckers is hard to hold back!

15. Honestly, take heart that your vote will cancel out one of theirs
And if you can find and register one more voter than they have in their family, you'll make a difference.

They sound like a LOST CAUSE (like half of Americans).

WTF is wrong with half the people in this country?!?

I can't IMAGINE a worse Republican President than Bush. If Kerry doesn't win this, it shows that we need a Bill Clinton EVERY time to get back the White House. And there was only one Bill Clinton.

Go out and register first time, left leaning voters!

16. Wow.. this kid's Dad was charged with atrocities???
Because THAT is who Kerry was talking about. Those soldiers that DID commit atrocities.. and they DID commit them. People went to jail for that, I guess this kid's Dad went to jail, too. Otherwise, Kerry wasn't talking about him.

I'd say that your son doesn't need to go over to that house. My kid wouldn't set foot in there. As a parent, I can usually tell which houses are at risk for having unsecured firearms, and which kids would have access to them... that house is prime example. I hope your son has no interest in going over there. I'd forbid it anyway.

And yes.. people are that clueless. They'd send their kid off to die for Bush' lies. Military service is not dishonorable, but wanting your son to go off to fight in bogus wars is... these people sound a bit loony. Steer clear!

18. Yesterday may have been the last straw
for this relationship. My son was ticked and "I" was furious that the kid would say such a thing. Hateful. Just plain hateful, but what do you expect from repukes? I really doubt that this frienship will continue.

I'll tell my son to ask the kid how long his dad was in jail for the atrocities he committed in Vietnam. That should shut him up. :hi:

20. Another t-shirt
I have a son around that age, too. His current fav t-shirt to wear is of the Comic Book guy on the Simpsons with a bubble saying, "Worst President Ever!" My son gets nothing but positive comments about it at school. Most of them from kids he doesn't even know. I've already given him a heads-up, though. Come Nov. 3rd, we're adding a big "W" before the wording on the shirt. Otherwise, Nov. 2nd becomes the last day he can wear it! ;-)

23. Here you go...
(Hoping to link this properly!)
http://search.ebay.com/bush-simpsons_W0QQsokeywordredirectZ1QQfromZR8

The seller was very friendly and got us the shirt very quickly. I've seen his shirts on Cafepress, too, but not the Simpsons one, for some reason.

My son's is a men's medium. He says when he wears it he hears lots of kids in the halls (middle school) imitating Comic Book guy and repeating those words on the shirt. Coooool!

Now, I just have to find an iron-on "W" so we can extend this shirt's life beyond Nov. 2nd!
