They're comin after Obama like they came after Clinton.
Total opposition, regardless of the merit of the efforts.

They will throw shit continually, no matter what he or the Dems do.

Bipartisanship is dead, now for sure, probably much earlier.

They want no part of it.

Recognize this. Accept this. And move forward as if repukes didn't exist.

While we can.

SEAT FRANKEN!

31. They won't
They will, however, take every opportunity to gripe over any mistakes or failures in Obama's conduct of those wars.

5. What an effin assclown mccain turned out to be. I actually voted for him
in the 2000 primaries here in SC. I hated bush way back then, and actually thought mccain was if nothing else an sincere voice. What a tool he turned out to be.

21. McCain 2000 != McCain 2008.
He sold his soul in 2008 and never got it back. His concession speech on Election Night showed flashes of the old McCain, but it was quickly replaced with the new, soulless McCain.

11. It is one of those well duh things.
I never expected anything less from the right wing.
And they never disappoint.
The only thing that will stop them up is for them to be kicked out of congress in large numbers. Then they will rethink their strategy.

12. Bipartisanship was also dead
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 07:40 AM by Enthusiast
during the entire Bush and Clinton administrations. It has been dead for a good while. It was either Bush's way or the highway. Again, the media is our greatest challenge.

This morning another caller into C-Span repeated the ACORN-stimulus lie. Once a lie gets air time it is as good as truth. And our opposition is getting their lies 'out there'.

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

I think those words are going to be Obama's "Ask not what your country can do for you..." 50 years from now every school kid in America will know that quote.

The partisan crap is the worst I've ever seen and the American people are going get really pissed, really soon.

15. During the stimulus debate
The right wing media spread lies. They said language in the bill mandated government control of doctors' decisions. Senior citizens were told they'd be denied life saving treatments if the stimulus bill passed.

The right wing has to be called out on lies like these. Ignoring them only gives them room to fool the public more. Before long they'll have 60% of the public hating Obama for stuff he never did.

17. Worse Than Clinton, GOP Was Threatening Filibuster Of Stim Bill
Bill Clinton received no Republican votes in favor of his stimulus bill, but at least Bob Dole did not threaten to filibuster it. Now, Republicans are insisting on a 60 vote threshold or else they filibuster in the Senate. I say we invoke the nuclear option if they continue to threaten to shut down the government.

19. The nuclear option isn't necessary.
Congress should focus solely on bills that have massive approval ratings, but go against everything the republican party stands for. Push bill after bill through Congress that will help the country AND be popular with the people. When (not if) the Republicans threaten to filibuster, CALL THEIR BLUFF.

MAKE THEM get on the Senate floor and give speech after speech after speech to prevent these necessary, popular bills from passing. Record every word they say, cherry-pick those speeches for gaffes (there'll be plenty), and play those over and over and over for the next two years. Bonus points if you get a "moderate" Republican from a Democratic state saying something 70% of their constituents would disagree with.

Sure, the Repubs will march in lockstep the first few times. But once they see their approval ratings in their home states drop below 30%, you'll see more and more senators crossing the aisle. Or, if they don't, in two years we'll have 65+ Democratic senators.

But we have to MAKE THEM FILIBUSTER! Don't let them threaten--make them carry it out every single time!

Sucking up to them and acting like one of them will not help.

Of course I do have a feeling Obama really is in it for the greater good where as I got a different vibe from Bill.

28. It's been a month! There are forces that may make it work that are beginning to be apparent
Have you seen the polls of the approval rating of Congress by party. The Democrats are not only net positive - a rarity when asked about all members of Congress from one party - the gap between the Democrats and Republicans in Congress is as great as the difference last year as to "Do you want a Dem or Rep for Congress". What do you think this means for the 5 Republican seats where the incumbent is not running? If we have a strong candidate and this stays this way, we could win seats in states never thought possible.

Look at the poll that shows Obama's approval by party - which splits Republican conservatives and moderates. Among Republican moderates about half have a positive view of Obama. Now, think what they likely think of Roadblock Republicans and their current just say "no" strategy.

Republicans Congressmen are not all stupid - these polls - if they continue will cause some to see that their constituents are not all listening to Fox or Rush. I think this could lead to bipartisanship.
