What do you think would happen if Powell had a meltdown,
and endorsed Kerry? How would that effect the election?

3. It would guarantee a Bush defeat
That would be such a big story it would virtually guarantee a Bush defeat.

But Powell would never do it.

Once upon a time I respected Powell.. thought of him as a moderate, principled Republican. Yeah, I keep hearing about how 'brave, sensible Colin Powell' fought with Bush and Rummy and the Neocons behind the scenes, but that isn't good enough. He went before the UN and shilled for them when he could've stood up -- his voice would've been the most powerful of all. Powell has damned any political future he may have had. Nobody respects a coward.

6. But you know,
if he did it, it would rehabilitate his reputation. What would happen if we all wrote and asked him to come clean and endorse Kerry? Could it hurt? Powell can't be thrilled with the carnage of our soldiers everyday. We are beginning to slaughter them like Vietnam.

7. but the problem with the typical Republican soldier mentality
is to always be loyal to the 'commander in chief' no matter what.

If Powell hasn't done it yet, I doubt he ever will. I also doubt he would listen to any of us when insider/establishment people were urging him to oppose the neocons and he didn't listen to them.

This is yet another reason to respect a man like John Kerry. He was a soldier who came back and stood up to his government -- he was loyal to his country first.

4. I'd like that a lot.
There's something about Powell. He's like Darth Vader in the last few minutes of Return of the Jedi.

I know there is good in him, yet.

And Powell hurling a screaming Dubya down a garbage chute is a beautiful image. Is that weird?

5. Maybe
his head will just launch itself into orbit.

Eh, Rove and Co. would just smear him postumously.

9. It would be cool, but it would never happen
I'm sure he's planning to step down if Buscho gets another term. If he plans on cashing in and sitting on some board of directors or is angling for private sector opportunities, it would be career suicide to turn on his master. Not to mention he'd always be looking over his shoulder in case some whacked-out Bush groupie jumps out of the bushes and attacks.

I'm sure Powell's pissed, but we won't hear the real story until he puts out his memoirs. And we might not hear it then.
