Obama stumbles in mortgage relief speech.
He said "wrecking havoc", when in fact the correct expression is "wreaking havoc".

However, he did this while demonstrating towering leadership and captaining a course out of a worldwide economic catastrophe.

Also, he did it while NOT torturing people without discerning their guilt or innocence, starting an illegal war, shredding the Constitution, or skewing national policy to circumvent all of the safeguards that keep the wealthy and powerful from profiting at the expense of the rest of us.

So I'm giving him a pass on this one.

:)

2. Um, you stumbled in posting.
The proper pronunciation is in fact "rek-ing" havoc.

I bet you also "could care less" about things you couldn't care less about, like nuclular proliferation.

5. Actually,
there are 2 pronunciations, per Merriam-Webster - "rek-ing" AND "reek-ing" are both correct.
Surprised me - I'd thought only the 2nd was correct.

Merriam-Webster online gives that as an acceptable pronunciation.

4. Actually, according to Mirriam-Webster, "wreck"
is the correct pronunciation of "wreak."

Curiosity got the best of me; I didn't know either. :)

pronunciation because it is so often confused with "wreck".

But anyone who actually read the few sentences in the OP (as you did) knows what I was really getting at.

18. Yeah
>>>Usage Note: Wreak is sometimes confused with wreck, perhaps because the wreaking of damage may leave a wreck: The storm wreaked (not wrecked ) havoc along the coast. The past tense and past participle of wreak is wreaked, not wrought, which is an alternative past tense and past participle of work.>>>

And the American Heritage doesn't even give "wreck" as an acceptable pronunciation for "wreak."

After 8 years of a chimp that couldn't put two words together - we got people that are focusing on just one word in a very important speech with a very complicated message. I'm sorry - that's just stupid. Come on people - get a life!!!!!

Help for home owners who are on the verge of losing their house will be able to save it. Timing is everything on this, but I would think this is one reason today was chosen. Perhaps it's just a certain time frame that needs this help for ones who are about to fall through the cracks into the life of an apartment dweller again.

As far as being bitter is concerned, I was just messing w/you:bounce:

44. I know all about your avatar thank you very much.
The red white and blue "zero" that so many Obama haters use around here is particularly galling.

He has been president for less than a month, but even before he was elected, the Obama haters were putting this "zero" everywhere.

Well in 3 weeks, he's done a lot more than zero, hasn't he?

FACIAL!

All kidding aside, is there really a red, white, and blue "zero" symbol?

And you're absolutely correct: he's set a record for early presidential achievement, and may well be on track to be one of the best presidents ever.

days, flying around the country giving speeches, taking questions from the press, dealing with the Republicants and thinking about how he is going to clean up the Bush mess 24/7.

If he malapprops a word (instead of just outright inventing them)....like I think I just did (ha, ha!), I think that it's more than understandable.
