16. To me it looks like she's deep in thought - The girls do need to be insulated from
most of what their parents must deal with.

12. She's the wife of wing commander Col. Steve Shepro (also in photo)

14. When Malia walks with him
They both have an arm around each other as they walk and they gaze seriously at the ground while they talk to each other. He always gives his whole attention to his family. It's like the world doesn't exist when they're talking to him. I love that. His children are never just in the background as window dressing.

Come to thing of it, when he's talking to people he seems to always be giving them his whole attention.

would be quite a traffic filled ride.

19. Friday rush hour traffic from O'hare to the south side. It's a nightmare.
I was wondering how they were gonna do it. The helicopter thing works well.

off in the wilderness! I love it. I was born and raised on the southside of chicago...I love that this is where they are from. Chicago will always be home, michigan next and never Nebraska where I am now. ;)

22. If Mayor Daley didn't rip appart Meigs field in some weird tantrum, Obama coulda
landed there. Right near his home in the plane.

Chicago is great! And we have many many weird political stories.

24. How close is that park to their house?
I'm guessing they still had to ride in Cadillac One for a few minutes. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'd want to ride in Cadillac One all the time if I were lucky enough to. :P

30. Pretty sure his helicopter flew over us on the north side near the lakefront.
When I heard it I said "I bet that's them" as I knew he was coming back here.

It was about 5:30 - 6 PM. We were coming home from running some errands.

32. So glad they are going back to Chicago for a long weekend.
I wonder where they'll stay? The girls will get to see their old friends; so will Mom and Dad. I expect Mom and Dad will have a romantic Valentine's Day dinner at their favorite restaurant.

Thanks for the pics. :hi:

39. I was going to say the same thing.
They are beautiful girls and Sasha is just adorable. Love her outfit here - so cute and so "put together".

They are a good-looking family. I also love that Michelle is wearing a little more "relaxed" look, rather than a boring/stuffy suit and heels. She's a breath of fresh air.

36. What I actually think is awesome and real is that the girls
are carrying their backpacks. I know it a small thing but as a parent I know there is a tendency for kids to want a little help with that. These girls are being treated as though they have the same responsibilities as anyone else their age.

It's been such a brutal winter so far, although the last week has been much better. It's snowing right now, but not too bad. I hope they have a great weekend. It's good to have them home. :)

44. I like the way the kids are wearing backpacks..
probably mostly school work but I can imagine mom, dad or gran telling them that if they felt they needed to bring all that stuff just for three days, they could carry it as well!

I wonder how long they will keep their house. I can envision them deciding to give it up out of consideration for their neighbors. Even when they are not there, I have to believe that the house/block is secured all of the time to some degree. (It may help that they haven't lived there all that long.)
