Sen Gregg- The trojan horse sent by the GOP
I can't help but feel that he was a trojan horse, who's true nature was discovered before he entered the city gates. It would appear his mission was to take the Commerce Secretary job and then use his authority to undercount (and by extension under-represent) minorities through out the nation. This would have given his party a huge boost both in votes, seats and money.

So far it's clear that the GOP can not be trusted and that they (to the detriment of our nation) continue to play their partisan games.

1. (shrug) That's nice. Didn't work. Nothing they've tried has worked...
Ever.

2. I don't know. It was an odd event. If Gregg was a "Trojan horse," why did he tip
his hand so early? About a week ago, I read something about the Obama team putting the US Census under another agency (or under the authority of someone in the WH?), because of their differences with Gregg about how the census should be conducted. That was odd enough, in itself. If Gregg had intended to whiten the census, you would think he would have shut up, hidden his views and done it quietly. And if the Obama team knew his views on the census when he was vetted, why did they appoint him to Commerce?

It looks more to me like Obama punked the Pukes. Maybe Obama knew about Gregg's Abramoff connection, and when Gregg put himself forward for the job (as the WH press release about his withdrawal said he had done), Obama, like the spider to the fly, said, "Sure, welcome to my web." Obama scores a big point on bipartisanship, and already has the info he needs (the Abramoff connection) to conveniently dump him out, before he has a chance to screw up the census and the Commerce department.

OR, this could be merely the artifact of new administration, which had to hit the ground running on the economic meltdown. There were misunderstandings all around (he thought they were more Pukish than they really are; they thought he wouldn't do anything so bold as whitening the census). No biggie--just a little first-14-days bump in the road. Bye-bye Gregg.

I tend to favor the second theory--that it wasn't the Pukes punking Obama, but the other way around (and it wasn't a misunderstanding). If so, we have a truly great political strategist as President. Other evidence points this way. In any case, I think we need to be wary of any event that the corpo/fascist 'news' monopolies use to portray Obama's actions as missteps, mistakes, messups, whatever. They've been so used to playing schoolyard bully politics, that they have no appreciation for subtle moves that ultimately outwit the bullies.

4. He didn't tip his hand it was the minority Congressmen/women
they knew of his past attempts to disenfranchise them, by undercounting them.

5. I believe this wholeheartedly
it was a plan to embarass Obama and try to fuck him up.

6. I disagree that it was a trojan horse.
It wasn't up to the Republicans to nominate someone to the Commerce Department. It was Obama's choice.

8. I think you are absolutely correct
I wanted to post yesterday (came home late from work, and was too tired to post) that I thought that the withdrawal had everything to do with the census thing, and absolutely nothing to do with the stimulus package.

They think they are slick, but they are actually quite transparent.

9. Seems pretty far fetched
Seems pretty boring to me and he's an ass who will be out of politics soon, so no harm done.

11. Nah. I think he went in hoping to moderate the administration and also
feed his ambition. Then the GOP declared war on Obama and this put a lot of pressure on him. He had to choose and he chose his own party, just like most of them do and have been trained to do. It's all about obedience.
