Poll question: Who would you prefer for HHS?
These are the names I've seen thrown around tonight. There was a thread that had John Edwards in it, but I don't think his name will be making any list anytime in the foreseeable future. I put in an "Other" choice, so if you really want Edwards use that.

1. Bill Frist, because he can examine anyone by video, and he's a family values honest man.
Jesus, I feel like washing after typing that.

11. Careful what you wish for with Kitzhaber
Oregon's plan is definitely health care reform...but it has created some interesting situations (e.g., a lottery established for 3000 openings since the plan was closed to new enrollment for several years.) And then there's the whole 'ranking' thing, which essentially means that if you're an alcoholic and you need treatment for liver damage, forget it...It's essentially economic triage, and (unfortunately) very little in the way of individual responsibility/ownership for lifestyle decisions, etc.

6. Doctor Howard Dean.
Let him do for the health care system what he did for the Democratic party.

of Ct. was also in contention. It was on MSNBC tonight. I didn't vote for anyone in the poll, but if it isn't Dean, I'd favor her because she knows whats going on. Thanks to her, Ct. hospitals can no longer perform "drive through mastectomies" !! She a breast cancer survivor.

14. Dean or Bradley
Both good choices, for different reasons.

Bradley is a well-respected consensus builder, has the trust of the business community, yet advocated a progressive health care plan during his 2000 presidential campaign. I think he could build support for health care reform as an economic reform.

Dean has a proven track record on these issues both as a physician and, more importantly, as an innovative governor. His own plan from 2004 was sensible and capable of garnering broad support.

19. Bradley & Dean for me
I agree with you - either would be great - but Bradley would bring more good will and gravitas and less built in opposition - imho
