President Obama To Cave In Even Further To Repubs On Stimulus Bill?
Vice-President Biden was on CNBC, and he said in this video which I've linked to below, that they were going to compromise even further on the stimulus bill to get more Republicans to vote for it.

Video Of Vice-President Biden On CNBC

“I think you’ll see it get better and I also think you’ll see Republicans voting for it."

Continues: “My guess is you're going to see maybe some additional infrastructure spending. You may see some changes in some of the things that have been put forward by the House in terms of spending. And maybe even some changes on the tax side.

When will this insanity of giving in to the Republicans, watering the bill down for the sake of bipartisanship, ever end? We WON, and it's time for us to pass the best legislation we can, without the support of the Republicans.

1. I don't think he plans on caving...
I think he plans on letting the constituents of the "no voters" know how their representative tried to screw them out of a good plan to bring jobs to their state.

13. They are in keeping with what I just said, really...
Infrastructure spending means more jobs. This is a good thing, something I'm sure all the constituents of the no-voters are in favor of, judging by the fact that Obama won on a change platform and the Republicans want to do the insane thing... keep doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

17. this is what Republican Senator Ensign wants to see in the stimulus
Ensign said he is also pushing two specific revenue-producing amendments. One, a repatriation amendment he is coordinating with Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), would lower the current 35 percent tax rate on income multinationals based in the U.S. make overseas and repatriate back to their home companies.

Ensign said lowering the rate would encourage more companies to bring that income back to the United States, where it could create domestic jobs. Most companies now keep the funds in other countries because of the high rate, and Ensign said it could bring as much as $40 billion back to the U.S.

The second amendment is being discussed with Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and would give businesses a discount on debt they owe.

24. So you think companies bringing money back into the US is a bad idea?
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 05:51 PM by emulatorloo
Why not incentivize them to bring back money they made in other countries. I want that money to come back to the US.

2. Do not call a fellow DU'er an idiot

3. Don't forget that Obama ran on giving tax cuts to the middle class and small businesses. Those tax cuts are part of the package. Not all tax cuts are bad.

Obama is not "caving" - he is going to get pretty much what he wants by the time this is done.

22. Let's wait and see what the bill
actually looks like before we claim the sky is falling. Based on comments from John Kerry and other democratic senators, I think we will see a significant increase in infrastructure spending which indeed would be a significant plus.

19. can you say filibuster?
the repigs are disciplined and know how to play a game to win. i can see them stopping this thing as a show of force...otherwise they set the stage for 8 years of playing the game like the wussy democrats and being beaten up and walked over. Sad to have to compromise but that is politics.

too bad they can't bury the stimulus boondoggle entirely!

28. More Infastructure?!? ONOZ!!!!11!!!
And call me crazy, but being that the majority of the tax cuts that are proposed in the current stimulus actually benefit working people, I'll wait and see exactly what cuts are being proposed before I muster up any "outrage".
