Sad: Franken will get much worse committee assignments than Gillibrand or Bennet
http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2009/1/28/231628/860

By process of elimination we know Franken will get:

Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
Special Committee on Aging
Committee on Indian Affairs

Now HELP is a good one, but I'm disappointed with the rest. Gillibrand is getting a spot on Foreign Affairs, but it's Franken who's spent time overseas meeting the troops. Mike Bennet is getting Homeland Security, but it's Franken who's spent time exposing Bush's abuses.

I hate to sound like a WATB since I'm glad he won, but it really doesn't seem fair.

2. Well, when all the appeals are over in, say, 2011 or 2013...
and he's finally seated in the Senate, who knows what committee seats will be available.

7. When the trials are over and Coleman concedes... could be a week or so, could be months.

4. Franken will glad to be a Senator
and we'll be happy for him after this long on the edge of our seats race.

That Committee sounds good for Minnesotans.

And, Gillibrand will have to run in 2 years.

6. Yeah, some of these committees are good for Minnesotans - I know he wanted Agriculture though
it was a long shot since Klobuchar is also on Ag but I had hopes he could make it.

5. Coleman's revenge? He knows he's lost. Coleman is just trying to weaken Franken's position. nt

12. There are many Native Americans in Minnesota
as a matter of fact, Bush, at some point, appointed a businessman from Minnesota to head that office.

And Franken cares about aging. You cannot separate aging from health and pension.

And, let's face it. This is his first elective office. It would help him to start small, at an obscure committees. The other senator, Amy Klobuchar, did so, too. Was on the Agricultural Committee of which, I am sure, Franken has no clue.

14. Are you kidding?
The Committee on India Affairs is where Jack Abramoff hid much of his illegal shenanigans, and where John McCain helped him defraud the Indian Land Trust of BILLIONS owed by the oil companies for land leases in exchange for their support.

Someone like Al Franken on this committee will be a HUGE thing!
