White House plans hardball
Pushing back against the unanimous House Republican vote against President Obama’s stimulus plan, the White House plans to release state-by-state job figures “so we can put a number on what folks voted for an against,” an administration aide said.

“It’s clear the Republicans who voted against the stimulus represent constituents who will be stunned to learn their member of Congress voted against creating 4 million jobs,” the aide said.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the lawmakers will have to answer to their constituents.

And a Democratic official added: “We will run campaigns in their districts.”

And later today, MoveOn, Americans United for Change, AFSCME and SEIU will be announcing a new ad campaign targeting moderate Republican senators who might support the stimulus — Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Charles Grassley of Iowa.

The ad, which will run in the Washington market and in those states, consists of clips of the president talking about the stimulus, followed by the male voiceover, “Tell Congress to support the Obama plan for jobs, not the failed policies of the past.”

Making the pukes accountable for their votes. Make them explain why they are against this plan and not just doing what their master rush wants.

Could we hope to turn Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia Blue?

I don't know so much about Florida, jobs might not be the biggest priority for a state with such a high population of retirees who already enjoy the benefits government healthcare.

74. I didn't mean to infer that everyone in Florida is retired
Florida has a disproportionate larger retired population compared to other states. I expect that skews the elections. I have cousins who live there (who probably don't vote) as well as my inlaws (who are ditto heads and vote however the National Review tells them). My grandparents had a condo there but they are gone now (which were two guaranteed Dem votes). My husband has some family on the other side of Florida and I think their votes are split. Retired people also vote more regularly.

Regarding your situation -- you've been laid off since May? I hope you find something soon-- are you stuck with depreciated real estate too? How are you getting by?

I didn't think that you thought everyone in Florida was retired, just sounded like you were saying we didn't need any help down here, because no one down here works. Silly of me to think that. I guess I'm just a bit touchy. Sorry about that.
Lost my house back in February '08. As to how I'm getting by, been cleaning houses under the table while I find steady work. It ain't much, but it helps. I'm o.k. though, there are many here that are not so lucky. I have hope. :hi:

As far as wages, I moved down here from Maine, their wages are far worse. If I could just find full time work I could afford everything I need to be self sufficient down here, not so in Maine. Most everyone I knew in Maine had to have help paying their rent. The economy up there has been a disaster for decades.

69. Don't forget the hard-ons for the Tax Cuts!
Doesn't matter that tax cuts mean nothing to the jobless, the poor or the lower-class; it's Tax Cuts all the way, Tax Cuts save the day!

They haven't thought it through that if a business --and given, it's CEO's-- have no income because the American people cannot afford to buy their products, said tax cuts are virtually meaningless (unless it's for the few who inherit a fortune via the Estate, er I mean DEATH Tax!).

But then they've always been bass-ackwards, it's always whatever gives the richest the most money NOW, screw everybody else. And sadly, their ridiculous 'trickle-down theory' (note: NOT a scientific theory! : ) wasn't even the start of all this balderdash.

Pathetic boobs. I hope they're ruined for a thousand years.

He is brillant that will show it in black and white. Of course you are depending on people to actually read and if they are anything like Bush or Palin that might be to much to expect.

were given to the bastards yet they do not vote for it...

If they are not going to vote in favor of anything then whats the point in giving them any input? they got their way without actually supporting anything.

But I sincerely hope that it's not Obama (singlehandedly) vs. the Repulicazombies during his whole term. Paging Kaine, Reid, Pelosi, et. al? Where's OUR Congresscritters out there? Why aren't they out there trying to help Obama with the stimulus?

Or is there maybe some strategizing going on between Obama and the Congressional Dems that we are simply not aware of?

37. And since the stimulus includes tax cuts ... the GOP just voted to raise taxes!

That is how they always frame it when Democrats vote against a tax cut. So I guess this makes it their turn now.

I hope someone posts it when it's done so I can email it to all Tennessee's congressmen and women and the local paper. Half are Republicans, but Dem Jim Cooper voted against the thing, anyway. Having a "D" after your name doesn't necessarily mean you can think.

65. This reminds me of Edwards
This reminds me of John Edwards. Remember when Edwards campaigned that he'd take away Congress' healthcare if they didn't pass universal healthcare or offer the people the same plan Congress had? The MSM jumped all over Edwards for that comment saying that he had no authority to do that...blah, blah, blah. Edwards replied that he'd have a bill introduced that said if Congress didn't pass universal healthcare or give the American people the same plan they had that they'd lose their own healthcare. He further stated that any Congressional Rep. or Senator who voted against the bill would get a visit from him in their district or state where he would use the bully pulpit to tell the voters that their Rep. or Senator voted to keep their own healthcare but voted against giving them the same plan. I thought it was a great idea then and I think what Obama plans is also a great idea. Use that bully pulpit!

Obama must act quickly to get early victories substantively and politically to harden people's approval of him to support of him as he does battle with those who want to keep things tilted unfairly the way they currently are.

I am so happy to be alive these days and witness this. It is unfortunate it is against the backdrop of such deplorable economic and everyday hardship for so many Americans and those around the world because of greedy profiteers all over but especially concentrated on Wall Street
