As Rod is removed from office today remember a lot of folks will be losing their jobs as a result
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 08:56 AM by wndycty
First, let me state I believe Rod should be removed. Second, I find his final charade to be very entertaining. BUT please remember there are a number of hard working political appointees who will either lose their job immediately or within the next week, and even more whose future is uncertain as they wait to see what Pat Quinn will do once he is sworn in. I used to be a senior staffer for Blago and many of those impacted are my friends. I'm confident many of them will stay on with Quinn but until he assumes power and announces his intentions they don't know.

The good news is the overwhelming majority of these folks have a healthy attitude and we are all planning on getting together for a spirited happy hour within hours of Rod being removed either today or tomorrow. Some of the folks are generally happy and ready to move one, others are just putting up a front and some are having a hard time dealing with their uncertain future.

This is going to be a surreal day for Illinois Democrats, last week we saw one of our own be sworn in as president, this week we are seeing one of our own crash and burn in spectacular fashion.

1. Every time there's a change in
a state or federal government there's a turnover of political appointees. Anyone who's a political appointee understands that it's part of the territory.

2. Well there are plenty of non profit agencies like the hospice I work for that aren't

getting their bills paid by the state. I'm looking forward to Governor Quinn.

Lots more people losing jobs because of bills blago won't pay than his staff losing jobs.

It does suck they will lose their jobs. But, this happens with most changes in administrations.

3. Wont he have to be convicted first?
Or is it different on a state level?

5. Nope, once he removed from office and Quinn is sworn in its all over. . .
. . .and that is expected today or tomorrow.

I have no compassion for Rod, but the staff is a different story even though other posters in this thread feel they deserve what they get.

7. It's bad they are losing their jobs. But, I don't know if you are aware of
how many people in non-profits are being laid off because blago isn't paying public aid bills.

9. I am not ignorant to that. . .
. . .and if you noticed I am completely supportive of removing Rod from office. I have 2 friends who are impacted by those bills not being paid. Having compassion for those losing their jobs doesn't mean I don't have compassion for those not getting their bills paid. Must I chose who I have to have compassion for?

11. Then it is different than on the federal level

Clinton was impeached (which is nothing more than an indictment) but only upon conviction by the senate would he be removed from office. So there will be no Illinois senate trial for the gov?

13. The senate trial has been going on since monday
blago has 90 minutes today, the prosecutor closes and then they vote. the cw is that it will be unanimous. it's exactly the same as on the federal level.

16. I haven't been paying much attention
I must have missed when they did impeach him. I thought that was what this was about - this is actually the trial. It should be unanimous - the man is a blight on the fine state of IL. I got so sick of him 2 months ago, I just tuned out.

14. That's the risk you take when you take a job as an appointee
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 09:47 AM by AllentownJake
and the same risk you take if you take a white color job with any organization. If your boss screws up you could lose your job over it when the new guy comes in.
