Just Five Republican States Left
According to Gallup, there are only five states that now have a statistically significant majorities of Republicans. They are Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska and Nebraska.

In contrast, there are now 35 states that are majority Democratic with 10 states up for grabs. (Politicalwire)

We still need your help down south to get the others. It's a long road but it's paying off.

36. Don't worry. Republicans are a dying breed.
Quite literally. The only demographic they have locked up is old folks. If Obama gets two terms, there will be a lot fewer republican voters and a lot more democratic ones. Milia Obama will be able to vote for her father's successor (assuming he gets two terms).

My thoughts go out for those of you out in those states.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see KY and TN off that list!

At least, now we have 1/3 Democratic representation. Even though Mark's moderate, he is at least not Ted Stevens.

47. Although they're a very conservative state, OK has a good number of DINOs
and (in the southeast corner) "Dixiecrat" types.

>>>Oklahoma has a voter demographic weighted towards the Democratic Party as of 2007. Though there are 11.6 percent more registered Democrats in Oklahoma than registered Republicans,<14> the state has voted for a Republican in every presidential election from 1968 forward, and in 2004, George W. Bush carried every county in the state and 65.6 percent of the statewide vote.>>>

6. Can't wait for the 2010 Census. One thing in our favor and a major
bummer for the Repugs is that the demographics are fast-changing in this country and the Repukes are scared shitless. They only have old, white men as their most loyal base (demographically). The Census will be taken next year and we should be able to witness firsthand the transformation taking place across the country, even in Southern strongholds like GA and TN. I predict that the Texas state legislature will turn BLUE and state legislatures are in charge of redistricting. Hmmm...

I see the political landscape changing right before our eyes. So go 'head, you stinking Republicans. Keep using the same "divide and conquer, wedge issue, Southern Strategy" formula! You'll be relegated to minority status for decades to come!! :)

9. Makes sense that we'll lose in those states because the housing and job
crisis seem to be push factors while TX, FL, AZ and CO don't seem to be as affected. However, NV has the highest foreclosure rate but remains the fatest growing. I'm thinking that land is still cheap and jobs are plentiful there in the tourist industry.

27. It is. We voted on DREs in 2008 because the Repubs blocked our DRE ban until 2010.
Because they were able to keep the hackable (by them) voting machines in place, EVERY open legislative seat in the state went Rethug. Both houses of our legislature are now Rethug for the first time since Reconstruction.
That means that the control of our state and county election commissions are now in the hands of Rethugs also.

Sound familiar? Try Georgia in 2002 (same m.o., same outcome).

38. Too True
In Oklahoma, the reach of the Baptist churches and the fact that you can hear Rush Limbaugh on at least three stations no matter where you are in the state sort of rule everything. Nowhere has the all-taxes-are-bad and all-tax-cuts-are-good taken hold more firmly. In fact, just about every state and local race this last November was a race between a republican and a democrat over who voted to cut taxes more or who didn't vote to raise taxes. The only reason Brad Henry got elected over heavily favored Steve Largent was because of a one-issie third party candidate. And he got re-elected because he has governed like a republican and his GOP opponent was a mormon (Ernest Istook) that even the crazies considered crazy.

32. See "gerrymander"
Texas is going blue because the younger generation are to the left of their parents and the state either is now or will soon be "majority minority" and ethnic minorities in Texas tend to vote Dem. In an attempt to resist that, expect to see the dirtiest gerrymandering in decades.

48. One good thing is that we are only one pickup away from a majority
in the Texas House of Representatives, where the breakdown is currently 76 R-74 D. If we can make a few small gains again in '10, we can block the most horrible of Repug redistricting plans during the next round of redistricting. (Besides, at least concerning TX, I don't think the Repugs can milk the U. S. House district map for much more than they already have.)
