The Trash Was Historic, Too

As a frequent visitor to National and State parks—I bring out what I bring in. This is mandate within the parks. Too bad this National monument was left with all this thrash. {and Obama stuff certainly is not thrash-IMHO).

Joy, Drama, “Ants” and Condoms at the Inauguration
January 22nd, 2009 7:23 pm by Myron Pitts

Snip………..
TRASH
The inaugural revelers left the mall trashed. There is no delicate way of putting it. I was very disappointed. Workers cleaned up 130 tons of debris.
I contrast this with the Million Man March, where just about every speaker at the microphone encouraged attendees to leave the mall as we found it. The speakers, and indeed many people in the audience, were very conscious of the fact that some people would love to rush in and say a bunch of black men trashed the mall. So when that event ended, it was clean. I recall officials even remarking on how clean the mall had been left.
So, I know from experience it is possible to throw trash into trash cans — even when there are more than a million people involved.
A few other observations:
………….LOT MORE………..

And here is the WP story embedded in the story above:

The Trash Was Historic, Too
Workers Pull an All-Nighter to Clear Spectators' Detritus

By Petula Dvorak - Washington Post Staff Writer

The day after America's biggest yard party was all about the cleanup.

Washington trash trucks hauled away at least 130 tons of garbage after the inauguration of President Obama, with more to go. National Park Service workers picked up almost 100 tons on the Mall and near the White House.

Because most trash cans had been removed for security reasons and a record-breaking crowd gathered downtown, the mountain of rubbish left behind was of historic proportions.

(snip)

"They left behind Obama hats, Obama bags, Obama socks," said Mafara Hobson, spokeswoman for Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D). "People left behind a lot of trash. A lot of it was the vendors along the parade route, too."

1. That Took Much Longer Than I Thought It Would
Wow, two whole days before someone was shocked that 1.8 million people in one spot for 12 hours might require a little more cleaning up than usual ...

2. Not surprising and not totally
the fault of the people.

3. The sucess of Mardis Gras
was once determined by the amount of trash. It goes with the territory.

I guess historic trash could be expected in DC since they removed most trash cans.

January 20 in DC didn't smell nearly as bad as the French Quarter on Fat Tuesday.

5. Wow! That's a lot of weight!
But of course since no arrest that day. Another record? And given MSM's record of spin, this will turn criminal once CNN puts on the panel of fake environmentalists playing politics.

6. A sad comment on the lazy-ass attitude of Americans.
"What? There's no trash can? Fuck it, I'm not carrying this all day. Throw it on the ground."

:eyes:

Assholes.

8. If this inaguaration is being judged by the trash gotten rid of
Then may I say that it was the most successful in history for the trash that left Washington in a helicopter?? That single moment did more to clean up Washington than all the trash left behind by 1.8 million people combined. Unfortunately, the people of Dallas and (?) (Just where the hell did Darth slink off to anyway?), now have to deal with this trash.

9. and, of course, the real story goes unhyped ...
1.8 million people in the mall for much of the day, not one arrest ...

Contrast that with 5 hours with a tiny fraction of that many at a football stadium ...

can't have a GOOD news item about a Dem event ...

14. Ever go to the National Mall on the 4th of July?
There are only 1/8 of the number of trash cans required. There is no place to put the trash. Couple that with the fact that security concerns do away with potential hiding places like trash cans. This is just the media's attempt to smear liberals attending the Inauguration.

16. With an event that size, it might have been impossible NOT to leave
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 11:05 PM by Lisa0825
an historic amount of trash... 1) I seriously doubt they had an adequate number of receptacles. 2) People were forbidden from bringing bags of most types, and I doubt many would have thought to tuck plastic bags into their pockets. With little room to pack up what they needed to remove, and not enough receptacles, there would not be a good choice.

17. I'm surprised people left behind Obama anything.
It would automatically be a souvenir having been at the inauguration. What do you want to bet anything worth saving went home with the cleanup crews?
