Does Obama need to arrange one or more high profile, prime time TV addresses re: stimulus?
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 09:53 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
There's plenty of news coverage, but does he need to make a special address on the issue to highlight his reasoning, so people will be sure to understand what he's trying to do, even if the economy continues to go down the shitter?

6. He Will If He Needs To
He may not need to with the Stimulus Bill ( we have no choice but to pass it) but
he probably will, in the future, use the "bully pulpit" to
shame the obstructionists or rally his supporters
for more progressive legislation like Single Payer Insurance.

I have a feeling he is just getting warmed up.

10. ur doin it wrong....
Obama has proven himself time and time again that he's utterly incompetent, and completely unable to do ANYTHING right. Clearly random internet people know MUCH better than Obama, just what Obama needs to do.

Get with it.

8. Absolutely!
He can speak over the heads of partisan republican congress members directly to the people. I dearly hope he uses his media bully pulpit along with his email lists to turn the heat up on partisan hacks - pulling them into the fold or sending them into the political wilderness to wander for the next decade.

9. YES!
I want Fireside chats without the fire. I believe we will see President Obama address the citizens frequently as part of an open government, keeping Americans informed and accepting their input.

12. There's a vote in the House tomorrow.
I don't think any GOP House members will vote for it, but they are the distinct minority. I think he'll easily get 60 votes in the Senate and he should take it and run. And then talk to the American people. In that order.

13. I'm expecting either a lengthy comment or short official speech just prior to the Senate vote
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 09:55 PM by Parker CA
with the primary aim of reinforcing the serious need for this package, and with a secondary and subtle aim of spotlighting the decision that the pukes will make against the best interests of the country should they vote against the stimulus package. Obama has this set up perfectly for the knockdown.
