So Robert Gates is giving President Obama his daily briefing...
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 12:13 PM by charlie and algernon
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is there too as President Obama wants to always make sure all diplomatic angles are covered. President Obama listens intently and takes frequent notes as Gates goes over the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the plan to withdraw from Iraq, what the Basque Seperatists are doing in Spain, and the various civil conflicts in Africa. As the briefing concludes, Gates says "Oh yeah, I almost forgot, 5 Brazillian soldiers were killed today in Afghanistan." President Obama pauses a second and says, "Well that's just terrible, get me President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the phone, I want to offer my condolences. And Secretary Clinton, why don't you go to Brasília, we really need to thank them for all their hard work."

had he been given such a briefing.

40. I just wondered how you missed it because that joke has been repeated over and over here many
many times. It was banned, actually and that resulted in it being hidden under false original posts. Sort of like the rickroll thing is now. The inventive ways that people came up with to sneak it in were hysterical!!

43. some would say you were fortunate. I am sorry you missed all the red herring
subject lines, deceptive OP's, clever and arty representations.

It was done with photos and caption bubbles, wine bottle labels. posters. you name it, somebody tried it.

it still makes me laugh.

36. Here's the original...
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

28. So, I read that and burst into hearty laughter...
then I grabbed my phone and called my brother and read it to him. He didn't laugh. He didn't even snort, or giggle.

He'd never heard the original.

It's sorta flat if you've never heard the other one. I had to explain it to him... It still wasn't funny.

So we talked about other stuff, instead.

37. it's an anti-joke.
It sets you up for one punchline ("that's terrible! how many is a brazillion?") and continues logically instead.

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"
