Bipartisanship is the new code word for selling out to corporations

Republicans do NOT represent the American people. They represent corporations. They are directed by corporate lobbyists, not their constituents. Unfortunately, we have far too many blue dog democrats who also cast their vote based on the corporate dictate. For the past eight years, dems have been allowed to skirt their ineffectual governance by claiming they did not have the majority. This is partially true, however, they passed up every opportunity to exercise the few powers they did have, and once in the majority in Congress, completely failed to serve as a check on the Bush administration.

In the past eight years, the corporations have pillaged our treasury, utilized our military for profiteering, privatized government services to the detriment of our fiscal health, and deregulated rules to the peril of our physical health & environment. Profit is the sole aim of the corporate doctrine. Investor profit. Executive profit. Period.

They took everything. And, it still was not enough. After they broke the system with their greed, we were told we absolutely had to bail out the banks to 'rescue' the economy. Thus far, several TRILLION dollars have been spent. Nary a house had been saved from foreclosure. Banks still hold the power to charge fees for every service and charge loan shark rates for credit card debt. Larger banks have swallowed smaller institutions leaving citizens with less choice and ability to negotiate some sort of fair deal with lenders. We have indebted our children and grandchildren for this privillege.

Yet, we are now told that we must sit down and 'negotiate' in a bipartisan spirit with the corporations that keep us enslaved. A single payer health care system that would solve the nation's health care crisis is off the table because it would take away the profits of the health insurance industry. Clean coal stands to collect billions for development while viable, less expensive clean technology already EXISTS and goes underfunded (or UN funded). The Bush taxcuts have not been ended and they will be allowed to 'sunset' in the next two years.

Remember, ALWAYS, that when you hear about bipartisanship, it is NOT the Republicans you are negotiating with but those they represent. And, it is not the people. It is those who bought their power.

We do not need to negotiate with corporate power. We need to END it and TAKE the power back. It does not belong to them. It belongs to the people...if only we would claim it.

2. The republicans were elected by Americans in their district/states.
They do technically represent Americans.

3. Sad but true. We really need to change the economic equation for Americans.

People are really hurting but the business complex of Dems and Repubs won't allow them to make the decisions that will in the end help everyone.

Usury was illegal before 1980. The Dems won't make usury illegal again. Look how well usury ended up working out for the banks. People couldn't afford those loans so they defaulted.

We also know that those derivatives or credit default swaps are a massive stone around our economy. Should they be illegal?

War spending is a program that's not working. Obama won't cancel that despite his promises to go after programs that don't work.

Trade protections? The Treasury Secretary the other day said China was manipulating currency. So I would think trade protections would be mandatory. Protect our jobs from the crooked Chinese.
