Caroline Kennedy was Derailed by Housekeeper's Taxgate
MSNBC evidently CKS had the Zoe Baird problem and when Paterson was going to nominate her she discovered Taxgate and withdrew. Teddy's circle is furious that Caroline's friends were blaming his brain tumor and not paying taxes on a nanny. (Nannygate redux) :wow:

5. sure. why not?
at least it's original. Nothing personal to you, it's just that whoever started that trend in the media some time back is on my hate list.

12. Blame Nixon...
if he hadn't chosen to do his infamous crookery in the Watergate building, the "gate" meme wouldn't exist. :P

4. From NY Post
In a stunning revelation, a source close to Gov. David Paterson insisted this afternoon that the governor "had no intention" of picking Caroline Kennedy for New York's vacant senate seat - because she was "mired" in an issue over taxes, her nanny and possibly her marriage.

selflessly serve...

He may end up doing a great job, but I'm not yet convinced.

8. The NY Post can kiss my ass.
Everybody else who should know pretty much agreed that it was in the bag for her. They're just taking the opportunity to throw shit.

11. Rumors abounded, but none of the papers would report it.
That's just one way the elite take care of each other.

15. So she says to herself, "You know, I think I'm just going to make things worse
by withdrawing 2 days before the announcement and not say why - then give a reason that makes me look even worse by those who are already against me. Yeah, that's what I'll do! It would be silly to just stay silent and let the appointment go as planned. Plus it would be fun to confuse everyone because I don't think they're going to slam me quite enough."

Yeah, right. Kennedy didn't just spontaneously decide to announce all this, there's something else going on - no matter how much you like or dislike her or think her unqualified this is too weird to take at face value.

13. At least this is coming out now, not later when it would have affected Obama's presidency negatively
