From the new issue of MAD Magazine......

For the rest, look for the issue on newsstands (and at finer comic book shops) now.

1. OMD!
I burst out laughing immediately!!

One good reason to go out in the snow: get the rest of this issue.

BTW, my former neighbor is one of the writers who worked on this. I see him listed in the credits.

51. How is that possible?
I can tell Tina Fay from Sarah Palin better than I can in real life. How did they do that with caricatures?

55. I took a class on it once.
well, an art class that touched on it. The trick was to use comic stereotypes to emphasize personality traits. Like you might draw Bush with an excessive space between his nose and mouth which is associated with "stupid" comic characters to help people identify him. Here Tina Fey has her hair down and thicker glasses, which suggests she is 'hipper' and 'smarter', which is how we identify her in addition to having a thinner face, which she actually has. Kinda interesting. :)

I hadn't noticed the glasses, but I had noticed Tina Fey's eyes look much clearer and shinier or something. It's very well done.

10. I love Mad. Does Sergio Aragones still do cartoons for them?
I have an original Aragones cartoon of myself, done by him when he came in to the clinic where I was working years ago and I asked for a mere autograph. He was a really good client, and was happy to do it. I am in it with his dog and it's a wild scene of pandemonium in the waiting room, lol (his dog was a maniac), and he of course signed it.

1966 I think. Riding in the chariot, Will says "Dad, I have to go to the bathroom." "Son, the nearest bathroom is 20 million light years away." Gee Dad, I don't think I can wait that long." Well, it was hysterical when I was 10.

The original group really made that magazine -- Al Jaffee, Dave Berg, Sergio Aragones, Mort Drucker,
Basil Wolverton, Don Martin, all many others. Spread a good liberal Jewish worldview under the guise of being cool and satirical.

91. YAAYY!!! OK-----
Hi Moosepoop :hi: thanks!! I'm glad you asked!! (I'll tell mine, if you tell where you got your name ;) )

OK, so:

My Dad came here from England around age 16, during the British children's evacuation, WW II...went right into Brooklyn Polytech, and ended up getting his PhD in Chemistry, age 21 (woa!!!)

anyway, at the time that he was a grad student/assistant, Bill Gaines (Originator of MAD) was a student too. I'm not sure if he was a Chem student, or what program they met in, my Dad is gone many years now, and our Bill conversations were a verrry long time ago...

anyhow, during those heady student days, my Dad, whose name was Alfred S Cummin, was well known among his fellow students for his reply anytime anyone said, "Hey Al, ya ready for the exam?" He always replied, "What, me worry?"

It was around this time that Bill Gaines became more aware that he wasn't into the scientist thing, and as he was creating the MAD Magazine idea, he took some inspiration from my Dad! My Dad also wore his hair at that time, in the way of Alfred E Newman's original hairstyle. (Or is that, Alfred E Newman's original hairstyle was designed after my Dad's?) And, my Dad did have a very round face, though that's where any physical similarities end.

I vaguely remember the night Bill Gaines came to our house, I was around 10 or something??, he gave me a signed copy of his book "MAD!", (he wrote inside, "Cindy, I'm MMMAAADDD about your mother, I'm MMMAAADDD about your father, I'm MMMAAADDD about you!!! I can still see that in my mind's eye) Haa, I remember, he was BIG, and HAIRY!! And funny! So friendly --- :D :D

sadly, I left that book at my parent's home along with a pic of my Dad, Bill, and some other guys, I think MAD staffers sitting together, as well as many other keepsakes, figuring one day I would gather everything I wanted to keep. Things ended up not exactly working out that way....but that's a story we needn't rehash!

There!!
:hi:
Blanche

"Sitcom lovers, already used to watching the exploits of a dumpy, bumbling schlub paired up with a foxy-looking mate."
I interpreted "mate" in the personal way, not thinking of running mate. Even so -- Sarah Palin, foxy-looking? Maybe compared to McCain, but still... :P

The one about "Dumped divorcees who hate any man who has a hot-looking second wife" can only be about Cindy McCain (though she may indeed have been hot way back when he dumped his first wife for her). :)

I never liked MAD Magazines, because they just make fun of people. I'm not for that kinda stuff...

But I DO like the artwork!

I'm new here, btw.... I don't know much about Politics at all, so forgive me. I'm learning.

I'm also full blooded German.

I have all 3 of the Spiderman Obama comics and the 4th is coming out next week. They are all the same story I believe. I want this one too. John Edwards with lipstick on his face and Tim Russert looking down from heaven. LOL! Mad is great. I remember the "JAW'D" issue in 75 I think it was.

It's way too funny. Who's the guy with the blush on the upper right hand corner of the second pic? I don't recognize him. The crowd scene is hilarious. Kucinich is held by his wife, Rev Wright and William Ayres are there and so is Monica. This is a collector's issue. LOL!!!!

Forgot to add, Tweety is wearing an appropriate t-shirt for someone whose legs tingled when Obama spoke.

Phew!

Good thing he won't do that in real life.

That would be an embarrassment and very significant.

97. There used to be Simpsons avatars, most notably Principal Skinner (used by Skinner, of course),
until a legal threat from Fox made DU take them down. That avatar replaced them.
