Drudge: More watched Reagan inauguration than Obama's. But here's what Drudge won't say
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 07:43 PM by nodramamama
The once-relevant Matt Drudge has a headline bragging about the fact that Ronald Reagan's 1981 inauguration was watched by more people than Barack Obama's. It's towards the right side of the screen and it reads, "REAGAN BEATS OBAMA: 41,800,260 to 37,793,008..." but what Drudge conveniently omits is that we had no internet, and by extension, no live streaming of the speech back then, which gives Reagan an advantage since in the hypothetical absence of internet in 2009, net viewers would have been forced to watch Obama's speech on TV, wildly increasing the number of TV viewers (remember, Drudge is referring to Nielsen ratings, which focus exclusively on TV). This is what CNN reported:

"News sites, including CNN.com, shattered records for viewers watching live streaming video online. And, sometimes for the first time, news sites carried video feeds on their front pages." http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/01/21/inauguration.online.video/

2. Shoot,---we watched on-line at my school
The Internet froze. We watched what we could, but it was REALLY slow (indicative of very heavy use).

4. 7.7 million watched it online
"About 7.7 million people watched the inauguration on Tuesday online at the same time, according to Akamai Technologies Inc."

6. If that was calculated by sets on then the number is off
by alot. At work three TV's where on, including the CEO's, watching the event by at least 12 to 15 people.

7. Ironic that the man once heralded as the standard-bearer for Internet journalism
would miss something that should be so obvious to someone in his position. Seriously, how could he have missed that?

8. Poor Matty
trying hard to pull something out of his ass (other than Jeff Gannon's cock) to try and stay relevant.

9. Is he counting the 2 million on the mall?
Baby boomers were in college then - we could watch because we weren't in the work force. That right there might account for it.
