Was Roberts (oath) "screw-up" a payback?
Confirmation Vote: John G. Roberts, Jr. to be Chief Justice of the United States
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=1&vote=00245

Obama Voted AGAINST confirming Roberts as Cheif Justice of the Supreme Court. Interesting.

Maybe the "screw-up" on the oath was an FU from Roberts to Obama.

11. so he'd rather go down as the buffon Cheif CJustice and member of the Federalist Society
that didn't know the presidential oath of office?

Ok - he is after all a Bush appointee - right up there with Heckova Job Brownie

3. .... Roberts was also the guy who coordinated the thug protests against the 2000 recount in FLA
He was probably mad that Bushie, the guy Roberts helped install in the White House, the guy who gave him a justiceship as a quid pro quo for coordinating that protest, got booed before the swearing-in.

9. Yep
Just like Roberts to pull a childish stunt like that.
And now it's coming back to bite him in the ass.

He's made a damn fool of himself and of his office.

14. bcoylepa, you probably have not been here long enough
because you will see a lot more childish stuff here being done by those who believe they are being clever.

I agree that it was probably nerves. That flub will be brought up at every inauguration from now on and will certainly be prominently mentioned when Obama takes his next oath of office. I am sure that Roberts would never deliberately do something that will make him look foolish for years to come.

millions of people, despite tinfoil hatters to the contrary. He screwed up.

10. Also no. Just proves how unworthy he is to be Chief Justice...
I would say, too, that it's actually a perfect example of how little the "strict constructionists" and other conservatives ever actually read the Constitution.

"Doo-doo-doo, oh I know the Constitution backwards and forwards; I'm the best expert on judicial philosophy in the country; I know exactly what the Forefathers intended on every subject under the Sun; doo-doo-doo."

"Oh, fuck; I had one sentence to recite from memory, and I fucked it up. Hope nobody noticed."

15. Nah, it was Roberts arrogance. Most Justices have a copy of the oath with them. Roberts was going
to show that he was so brilliant that he did not need no stinkin' notes. Instead, he showed the opposite. Obama was, as always, too cool, stopping and nodding at Roberts to go again. But, in the future, the CJ should be required to read the oath, and in segments of three or four words, so that the Prez Elect doesn't screw up the echo either. This is, after all, the Constitution they are quoting.

No matter how Roberts feels about Obama, he would not mess up purpose, for exactly the reason you state.
