1. c'mon - there was nothing intentional - as much as I don't care for his politics,
I cannot believe he would do anything intentional to embarrass the new Pres.

2. I agree, it wasn't intentional as some have insisted
but it was VERY embarrassing for the Chief Justice of the US to screw up so badly on national TV.

3. I agree with that - I am sure he is very embarrassed
He is very proper - and this has to be one of those "worst nightmares" for him.

4. The "so help you god?" part was definitely intentional.
It's not part of the oath, and his inflection was very purposeful.

6. Obama had already stated that he wanted that included..
and that he would say it. And, Roberts inflected it as a question for the first time in the past 12 inagurations as opposed to making it a flat statement. This was to signal that it was NOT part of the constitutional requierment.

10. Perhaps true.
I hadn't considered that possibility. However, without that being substantiated, and given that Obama was the first President to be sworn in by a chief justice he voted against, I hope you might forgive me for being skeptical.

5. I'm thinking Dr. Freud would have a field day
with Roberts stumbling over the oath.

12. Well, not intentional but Roberts was sorta like
the high school senior who already got accepted into the college of his/her choice, then just decides to coast the rest of senior year: take days off, don't study for anymore tests, etc.....Well, Roberts just coasted thru the oath yesterday....Roberts should have spent 5-10 minutes (or a few more minutes if necessary) to prepare for delivery of the oath to Obama....Roberts' job was not a difficult one....

11. I take it no one saw Robertsons dancing immediately afterward in the hall.
Yeah, he was doing a dance and mumbling something about "getting Obama good!"

He later said he became Chief Justice just so he could he reach lifetime goal of causing Obama to lose his grace.
