Could we have, like, ONE official "What I didn't like about the Inauguration" thread
where everybody can post all the stuff they didn't like, whether it's What happened to the part where Bush sits in one of those cages and people throw baseballs to try to dunk him in a tank of water? or Somebody really really needs to tell the First Lady that she would look better in a creamy off-white than in ivory or I can't believe everybody's still has to sing that impossible Anacreonic song! When is this country going to wake up and get a better national anthem? or whatever it is

1. I felt that
some of the shoe laces people were probably wearing might have been too expensive, and the wrong color. This bothered me. I was tossing and turning all night. What does this say of us, as a people? As a nation?

2. Couldn't see that from the media report, either. No in-depth coverage of footwear.
Really, what were they thinking?

3. An actual complaint . . .
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 07:12 AM by MrModerate
I wanted a better feel for crowd reaction during the inaugural address. I realize that it would have been undignified to do a split screen or cut away (except to people on the podium), but I would have liked some reaction shots. I Guess I'll have to wait for the movie.

4. Did you watch it at home or in a public setting with a group?
I signed up off a MoveOn email to watch with a group of maybe 100 folk here in Durham NC who drove a few miles on snowy Durham roads for the big TV screen. The folk in DC arrived early in the AM on a bitter winter morning, many from out of town, to take in the event. Here in Durham, the crowd loved it; in DC, the folk had planned for months to get there and had paid for the trip and the lodging. I felt like I had a good idea what the reaction was

14. That sounds like a great way to have watched . . .
or more precisely, shared, the moment.

I watched it on delay -- on Fux News of all channels -- here in Australia.

5. Everyone was quiet during that part
we wanted to hear him speak. :) It was really weird; we were all loud & happy, boisterous, singing the good bye song & booing bush & any republican (incl. Lieberman) whose mug showed up on the jumbotron. But then Feinstein announced Justice Stevens & Biden...a bit of cheering, then everyone hushed in anticipation....he gets sworn in, we go nuts, cuz guess who's next?? Yo Yo Ma. :wtf: for a second, then we enjoyed the music. Then we quieted down again. Feinstein announces Roberts & Obama. Dead silence from the crowd, anticipation so thick you could see it in the air. "So help me God." The crowd goes insane for 2 seconds, then the PRESIDENT is speaking. Everyone is quiet again, we cheer briefly at the proper moments, but since we all want to hear what the PRESIDENT has to say, we settle down quickly. Then his speech ends; we go nuts. The end. :)

6. No, why can't we just celebrate that the jug-eared little fuck has left the building?

7. We could have done without the musical interlude
I'm a fan of Yo-Yo Ma, but that was the wrong moment.

9. So incredibly wrong, you are
The music was perfect, and at the perfect time. I wish it had gone on longer or, hell, replace the invocation with it.

16. Let's see . . . "Tis a gift to be simple . . ."
Played by the most accomplished artists of their respective instruments, in an arrangement that was rich, complicated, nuanced, and beautiful. Just before a man like Obama took the oath.

Your term "perfect" works for me.

That would have made it worth the price of admission.

12. lieberman prancing down the stairs from the...
staging center to the platform with a big shit eating grin on his face. From the way he acted, you would have thought he'd just been elected president.

But, in all honesty, I really didn't care that much. The day was bigger than him and I enjoyed every single minute of it.

13. Waiting in line for hours to get standing room tickets from my Congressman the day before
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 10:38 AM by thecatburgler
Only to wait 4 hours in an incredibly long line the next morning. Only to get close to the gate 10 minutes before the ceremony and be told the gate was closed. :( I am one of thousands of people this happened to, and many of us travelled a long way and spent a lot of money to be part of this historic occasion.
