A Drive to distribute F-911 as Campaign Literature???
Could that be done feasibly? Raise some money, order a ton of CD's (maybe at a discount) of F-911, and distribute door to door in swing states? You know a lot of people (my mom and dad included) have not bothered to see the movie. I got the idea because I plan to buy two copies when it comes out and send one to my parents and one to my sister. Do you think it would even make a difference?

I would love to try to do something like that, but the HATCH ACT says that I cannot. I am only allowed to contribute and put out a sign.

1. Order ... HAH !!!!

There I have blank DVDs ready for the F911 release. I will distribute in packages labled "watch and pass on". Micheal Moore is encouraging it.

Conservatives aren't going to buy copies of F911, so I'm not worried about their revenus ;-)

2. Where, specifically, is he encouraging it?

I'm on the front lines of IP battles every day, and if he's sincere about this, I'll run my burner 24/7.

But I have to know it's legit, first.

Edit: Nothing I read on his website indicates this--his distributors would overrule this anyway, even if he was good with it.

8. Be careful with this - it's still piracy
I don't care what Moore said in an interview once, it's still piracy, and it kinda looks bad for DU when we're talking about stamping out DVD copies of F 9/11.

Moore recommends viewing parties, like MoveOn did with Outfoxed. This is highly effective, since you get an actual dialogue going afterward (as long as it doesn't get busted like the Fresno peace group in the movie).

Perhaps you could buy a copy or two for your local library. Or lend it out to your friends after you watch it. These are more effective than just cranking out copies and throwing them in mailboxes (which is illegal in many ways - and makes our side look kinda bad).

4. *HAS* Michael Moore encouraged re-distribution of F-911?
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 06:59 PM by krkaufman
I know that the 'Outfoxed' & 'Uncovered' director, Robert Greenwald, suggested doing this -- copying and distributing -- with the 'Uncovered' DVD during an early appearance on AAR's Majority Report, and so ...

I'd like to do the same with F-911 but wouldn't want to go against Mr Moore's wishes.

5. "Outfoxed" and "Uncovered" are both distributed by
MoveOn--they have donated both films widely to libraries.

Therefore, they are in a position to allow this, although I still wonder if they officially condone this.

Until I see something official from Moore or PARTICULARLY his distributor, I say proceed with caution. (FWIW, I work for a library acquisitions dept)

9. It's being distributed by Columbia/Tri-Star
I don't think they recommend burning copies and distributing them freely.

Many people did good work in getting the film out. Support them with your wallet.

6. Yes
But the problem with "meet ups" is that you are preaching to the choir in a lot of cases, or at least dealing with people who tend to be political. I am talking about distributing these to people in their homes, especially homes where people are likely to NOT have seen the movie nor be inclined to go. Rural areas or older neighborhoods with more seniors, etc.

I don't know about restributing, that is why I wondered about purchasing a bunch of legitimate copies hopefully discounted ones. Maybe someone could mass order and cut out some packaging costs, etc.

11. Movies come to ppv about the same time they are released on DVD
It'll probably play on ppv/On Demand in October.

"Bowling For Columbine" was on the Sundance Channel the other night.
