5. I've heard that rumor before every transition or presidential election campaign

since I have been politically active in liberal causes. It seems to be our liberal "tic."

When I first heard it I was momentarily scared. But as I kept hearing the rumor again and again and nothing of a sort happened, I got jaded.

That report, plus a flurry of editorials and outraged statements by politicians, constituted "pushback" from the political and chattering classes that prevented the administration from further contemplating their contingency plan.

If the NY Times thought it was a real possibility, then I suspect it was.

8. I'm not going to do this on inauguration day

but it was in the run up to the Bush-Kerry election, not the Obama-McCain election.

It was reported in mainstream media that Bush was "floating" the idea of postponing the election. The CRS wrote a report on it, and some federal election bureaucrat was told to create a plan.

The NY Times had a lead editorial against canceling or postponing the election. They generally don't write lead editorials against imaginary threats.

It was a serious possibility that was floated. There was real talk of it happening and they did do research to find out how and if they could do it.

I think it was only because of the immediate, loud pushback that it didn't happen. But it was out there.

This would be a really good time for everyone to take a moment and do an internal inventory. Consider all the times you were absolutley certain about something and turned out to be wrong. I love a healthy intelligent discussion, but it seems like so much of the conflict on this board is people thinking that all their opinions are facts. So...before you go into complete combat mood, consider what actual fact is in your arguement, is you opinion based on some kind of evidence, do you know and how do you know the outcome of any situation...or are you just projecting.

PS Many of us had 'gut feelings' about the last 8 years which were 100% right on. Like dimson ruining the economy, stripping our constutional rights and gutting social programs.

If they didn't go as far as martial law and bombing Iran, it wasn't for lack of trying. Perhaps we should examine the reasons for their failure in those areas.
