The much-needed killer app Kerry Iraq sound bite
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 03:14 PM by troublemaker
If you would like Kerry to say this, please email this soundbit (in blue) to Josh Marshall. Josh is looking for such a soundbite, and getting more than one email with this would help guarantee he notices and considers it. mailto:talk@talkingpointsmemo.com
By every possible measurement--lives, money, influence, credibility, stability in Iraq, stability in the region-- by every measure we are losing ground in Iraq but President Bush doesn't seem to have a clue.

If we are going to turn this mess in Iraq around the first step is to get a commander in chief who understands there's even a problem.
__________________________

1. Swing voters do not want to hear about how we got into Iraq, but rather what we do going forward.

2. Ideally, slogans state truths that voters can verify for themselves themselves. They prime voters to have certain "independent" thoughts.

3. At this point Bush cannot separate himself from the "everything's great" argument, and all voters will hear glowing assessments of Iraq time and again incoming weeks.

4. The forceful repetition of this line by Kerry himself will paint all subsequent George Bush happy-talk on Iraq as delusional and incompetent.

5. I am going to violate netiquette
Kerry is close... he is wiggling around the edges, but he doesn't have the rhythm or clarity yet. His audiences should be chanting this along with him.

Josh Marshall seems to think there's a point in him (josh) knowing of a good sound bite, so he ha what he perceives as non-trivial influence with the campaign itself. This is a very good sound bite for the current political realities and facts on the ground. And it's ideal for Kerry's manner, voice and cadence. So please email it to Josh. Bury him with it. (I am going to keep self-kicking this because this election means to much for me to worry about netiquette)

If we are going to turn this mess in Iraq around the first step is to get a commander in chief who understands there's even a problem.
