9. I was telling my mom that she doesn't seem to be much of a fan of shoes
Until it got cold it was noticeable how often she was shoeless. I don't think it was to make him look taller she strikes me as someone who kicks off shoes every chance she gets. I am practically Japanese myself-in the door...off with the shoes

I have knew a couple of women about her age that were like that too.

She got her height from her mother's side, so when Theodore - 5'8" - gave her away at her wedding, the social pages noted that the head of the bride was a head higher than the head of the head of state.

Some Republican senators referred to her as "that Amazon," and folks like Churchill and the royal family were shocked by how big she was. When Cecil Beaton took the famous photographs of her and the Windsors, Beaton made her sit down because he thought it would hurt Allied morale to see her bigger than the King of England.

Alliance of Affirming Faith-Based Organizations

http://www.southernvoice.com/2009/1-16/news/localnews/9669.cfm

http://pageoneq.com/news/2009/sharpton0113.html

"There is something immoral and sick about using all of that power to not end brutality and poverty, but to break into people's bedrooms and claim that God sent you," Sharpton told a full house on Sunday.

"It amazes me," he said, "when I looked at California and saw churches that had nothing to say about police brutality, nothing to say when a young black boy was shot while he was wearing police handcuffs, nothing to say when they overturned affirmative action, nothing to say when people were being into poverty, yet they were organizing and mobilizing to stop consenting adults from choosing their life partners."

"I am tired," he went on, "of seeing ministers who will preach homophobia by day, and then after they're preaching, when the lights are off they go cruising for trade...We know you're not preaching the Bible, because if you were preaching the Bible we would have heard from you. We would have heard from you when people were starving in California--when they deregulated the economy and crashed Wall Street you had nothing to say. When Madoff made off with the money, you had nothing to say. When Bush took us to war chasing weapons of mass destruction that weren't there you had nothing to say.

"But all of a sudden, when Proposition 8 came out, you had so much to say, but since you stepped in the rain, we're going to step in the rain with you."

59. My Dad met her
When she toured the South Pacific during WWII. No fancy Winnabego-in-a-plane for her -- she sat where the troops did. Daddy didn't tell me about it until not long before he died. Dang. I would have loved to hear that story over and over again.

65. No...
maybe I wasn't clear. Her visit to the South Pacific was as secret as it could be so she flew in a troop transport. Dad was in the Navy and she visited the troops to boost morale. He said everyone was very surprised to see her.

Here is a link to Eleanor's diary of the trip:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/eleanor/maps/tourtxt.html

Here's a link to a very cool story of a young GI who drove Eleanor around Oahu in an army truck.

http://www.offenburger.com/guestpaper.asp?link=20050124

And from another site:

During the war, her duties only increased. One trip to the South Pacific took her across New Zealand, Australia, Guadalcanal and seventeen other remote islands: Christmas Island, Penrhyn, Bora Bora, Aitutaki, Samoa, Fiji, New Caledonia and more. Admiral Halsey, who wasn’t looking forward to the First Lady’s visit, changed his attitude after Eleanor toured two his naval hospitals. “When Eleanor Roosevelt inspected those hospitals, I don’t mean that she shook hands with the chief medical officer, glanced into a sun parlor, and left. I mean that she went into every ward, stopped at every bed, and spoke to every patient. What was his name? How did he feel? Was there anything he needed? Could she take a message home for him? Wherever Mrs. Roosevelt went she wanted to see things a mother would look for,” the Admiral said. “She chatted with the men like a mother would. As she left, there were many GIs claiming they had a cold because they suddenly had to blow their noses a lot.”

They really took things overboard with that Narcisco Rodriguez dress. You'd think she personally assaulted them are something. So, let them wait. She will show up look fabulous as usual. I have a feeling she wears a pearl white, light brushed gold, or a lilac colored gown and Obama wears white tie. I can't wait until Tuesday.

I said Lilac because I saw a few sketches for Lilac gowns, but bold purple is soooo regal. She would look absolutely stunning in it with Barack in white tie. The girls can wear lilac. Beautiful.

21. I would have to agree.
Although Nancy Reagan was known to wear a dress or two. However, Reagan was a fashion slave, wearing all of the designers, etc. Michelle has her own style and she picks and matches what she wants to create her own unique style. She wears everything from H&M (I know because I bought the burgundy, black and off white dress she got from there) to Maria Pinto to J. Crew. She is really a real woman.
