Pics from concert.... sort of..
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 09:20 PM by DCBob
Unfortunately we did not get into the Lincoln Memorial concert area but we tried. They shut down the gates just as we were getting close. Apparently they reached the max holding number. The entire area was jam packed with people and we could hardly see anything so we bailed out and went home. It was still fun going downtown and seeing the crowd and all the activity. Here are few pics from the trip down and the huge line up.

This is Corcoran Gallery on 17th. Not sure what the Obama/Reagan pics represent -- I guess they have some sort of gallery setup highlighting both of them.

This is me overly dressed for the cold. It was not as bad as we were expecting.

Vendors were everywhere cashing in on Obama-Mania.

The line up. We were in line for over an hour and we still did not get in.

Potty patrol.

The massive crowd amassed around the Wash Monument outside the concert area

Jumbotrons for those who could not get in.

My only view of the Lincoln Memorial from outside the fence -- using camera max zoom.

Those unable to get in watched a Jumbrotron.

Some nut still protesting Obama's birth certificate.

========

I just watched the replay on HBO. The concert I missed was simply amazing... but I do feel fortunate just being there among the huddled masses. Cheers!

3. We started out by Einstein and walked around by the WWII monument, then to the water...
then to the top of the hill by the Washington Monument where the view was pretty amazing.

23. We didn't try. I hear they were showing up around 8:30. Did you have to get tix...
ahead of time, or was it first come-first served?

27. No tix. Just stood in a huge winding line that moved very slowly.
We got there about 1 or so and they closed the gates at 2:30. We hung out for while at a jumbotron but that too was a massive crowd so we decided to just go home and watch it on TV. It was still fun to go down there and experience it first hand.

5. Many thanks for the pictures.
They bring back memories of walking around those areas with kids and later with grandkids--and bring the event today back to the personal level. Nice job!

Sorry you didn't get in, but you surely have the spirit of the day.

of your head and ears!! (well, that's what I've always heard,
and I believe it!)

Thanks for the great pix!

14. The Reagan and Obama pics are
because of the Avedon show currently at the Corcoran. Avedon took the Obama pic in 04 after his convention speech, I think, and the Reagan one is from....the 80s

24. It's "Portraits of Power" - sounds fascinating, wish I could see it!
Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power will include approximately 250 photographs from the 1950s through the artist’s death in 2004, displayed chronologically and grouped within Avedon’s specific editorial projects. The exhibition will include many rarely-seen and some never-before-exhibited or published photographs. A major catalogue, published by Steidl, will accompany the exhibition.
