Did Arlen Specter speak at the Philly event today?
I'm watching C-Span and it looks like Specter is one of the speakers...if so I think that's kind of cool. Cool that Obama invited him and cool that he agreed. It shows that it's not a campaign anymore and that he is the president of the whole country, whether people voted for him or not. I wonder how he was received.

1. Yep....Specter was there kissing big time ass!
He wants to win his statewide election in 2010!

I suggest he go along with Obama's agenda....and I guess he heard me. :)

9. My hardcore republican dad hates him from that
He's often complained whenever Specter sides with us on issues, and goes around saying "Specter is more dangerous then the democrats when he opposes us", arguing he's dangerous because of the bipartisan label that just one republican vote can put on a democratic bill.

In my opinion as a PAer however, Specter should be much more worried about a challenge from the right then a challenge from the left in the general election. Specter is the longest serving senator in PA history for a reason, because he's a moderate that can win general elections, Specter actually started out his political career as a democrat. Since only republicans can vote in republican primaries in PA, and a lot of moderate republicans switched parties to vote in the democratic primary, Specter could be in big trouble if Toomey takes him on again (and that seems a lot more likely lately). Toomey almost beat him last time, and this time around there's likely to be a primary battle in the democratic party on the same day in the race for governor, which could keep many of those moderates who saved Specter away.

10. Exactly.
He is with us on the Employee Free Choice Act and we need his support. So if putting him on stage at an event like this is the payoff, I'm find with that. Plus, I think having Specter there helps Obama too. It elevates him and reminds people that he's their president whether they voted for him or not.

4. He did.
I have no clue what he said, as I wasn't really listening. Something about bi-partisan blah blah blah.

He lives near me, actually, as does Rendell. o_O

Magic Bullet aside, he is a reliable supporter of labor, and the hardcore GOPers hate him.

7. One of the guys I know on a local board where I post claims he is an aide to Specter
This guy is definitely a moderate Republican and really gives the far right guys shit. He is meaner to them than any of the lefties on the board. He posts on this board because he grew up here, but he lives in DC now.

I don't know if he is telling the truth but he seems to know a lot about how the Senate operates.

8. in 2004 Specter's campaign passed out Kerry for Pres/Specter for Senate Signs
they want people to look at him and feel he is allied with the Democrats and not like most of the Republicans.
