WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Five women whose husbands were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks will endorse John Kerry for president Tuesday, United Press International has learned.
Kristen Breitweiser, Patty Casazza, Monica Gabrielle, Mindy Kleinberg and Lorie Van Auken will announce their support for Kerry at a news conference in Washington and then embark on a whirlwind campaign tour through key battleground states.
"This is not about politics," Breitweiser, whose husband Ron died in the World Trade Center, told UPI. "This is about making the country safer. No one should have to go through what I went through."
Breitweiser and the others have become increasingly outspoken critics of the administration, especially since the launch of the war in Iraq.
"That was not about making the country safer," she said of the war.
Breitweiser, a registered Republican who said she voted for President Bush in 2000, said she had become convinced of the need for change in the White House as she watched the way the administration reacted, first to the proposal for an independent inquiry in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and then to the inquiry itself.<snip>
