Edited on Mon Jan-12-09 09:12 PM by onehandle
"In a time of extreme conditions the former President did what he thought was best."*

*No, Obama didn't say that...yet. From his future speech.

And before you attack me, read my other responses in this thread. I'm not going to address the same points fifty times.

(take "a million dollars" as an expression. a million dollars was a lot of money when I was a kid and Nixon was pardoned.)

And no, I'm not "attacking Obama." Read my other responses in this thread.

The pardon is a certainty.

He doesn't need to pardon him if he has no intention of prosecuting him.

12. It's not vitriol. When Obama pardons Bush I will understand his action.
He has to settle the matter, and it WILL NOT BE IN PROSECUTION.

9. do people not realize what a pardon is?
No conviction= no need for a pardon. If president Obama actually has the AG and justice dept go after bush crimes he damn well wont pardon them.

24. ok true.
But those were exceptions, not the norm, that and Carter and his vietnam draft pardons. Considering how unpopular the Nixon pardon was what makes you think Obama would do this as well, since Bush is equally, if not more unpopular? I'm pretty sure that Obama wants to be a popular president. How would this help that?

21. I have been saying for years that there would never be investigations.
I believe I was wrong. Bush's speech today I think is a hint that he will be taking responsibility.

I always thought that his lieutenants would pay the price. I don't think so.

Bush is so unpopular that anyone who dared pardon him for criminal acts would suffer dearly.

33. You mistake my declaration for criticism.
His transition has been excellent (except for the Warren pick). He will be a great President.

When he pardons Bush, he will explain why.

28. Typical of some posters around here. Who cares anyways?
If Bush goes to jail will it change anything he has done? No. It won't reverse a damn thing that has happened in the last 8 years, the damage was done. I hope that karma kicks him the ass but short of pure torture jail would probably be a day in the picnic for Shrub. He eats like a 5 year old so the food won't seem bad. He is constantly told what to do now so what would be different? Okay, so no golf but if a former prez went to jail it would be cushy for sure.

30. If I Were Obama, And Planning To Investigate, Every Time In Public I Addressed The Issue
I would make it seem that I probably WASN'T going to investigate. Especially before I'm even sworn in. I might even keep up the charade for a while, but then ultimately be "convinced" by the preponderance of evidence, that investigation and prosecutions may in fact be necessary. But that's just me and I'm nowhere near as smart as Obama.

32. Bush is not in danger of being prosecuted, making this a moot point.
Obama's Justice Department won't be spending its time prosecuting Bush officials.

So there will be no need for a pardon.

Making your post nothing but an attempt to piss people off.
