Edited on Sat Jan-10-09 08:34 AM by wndycty
. . .after reading SWAMPLAND and realizing that I should be throwing a tantrum because David Plouffe worked his ass off and Barack Obama OWES David Plouffe DAMMIT and should have made him DNC Chair, Chief of Staff, Secretary of State, Senator from Delaware and UN Secretary General DAMMIT.

Even though Plouffe is being both gracious and magnanimous about this diss in public I KNOW that he expected some type of gesture dammit. I can read his mind and more importantly I can read Obama's mind and know that this move or LACK THERE OF, was done on purpose to say to Plouffe, "F YOU MAN, just F YOU!"

========================================================================

Do I sound crazy and irrational? Do I sound like I am looking for a controversy where one doesn't exist? Ummmm yeah and so do the others.

Making fun of someone's supporter who feels for the politician who is partly responsible for the change of direction in the country, but who has been loudly, obviously, and unceremoniously kicked out of the party....is not cool.

"Yesterday, I had the honor of introducing Virginia Governor Tim Kaine as the next Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

We're in a strong position to build the Democratic Party, renew our commitment to the principles we share, and continue the outstanding work of Chairman Howard Dean.

Among his many achievements, Governor Dean launched a strategy to reach out to Americans in all 50 states -- north, south, east and west. This 50-state strategy helped Democrats compete in states where we hadn't in years, including states like Virginia.

Governor Kaine has seen the power of the 50-state strategy firsthand, and under his leadership, Democrats will continue to organize and compete in every corner of our country.

Share your question for incoming Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine -- he'll answer as many as possible in a video on Democrats.org.

Tim is the ideal leader to grow and strengthen this party -- not by appealing to our divisions, but by appealing to our common hopes; not by pursuing policies that advance a specific dogma, but by pursuing policies that work for ordinary people.

As Governor of Virginia, Tim was known for his intelligence, integrity, and strong economic leadership.

He has a record of putting public service above partisanship, and he knows that reaching across party lines is the way to achieve progress for all Americans.

Over the next few days, you'll have a unique opportunity to get to know Governor Kaine. You can submit a question online, and he'll answer as many as possible in a special video next week.

Learn more about the future of the Democratic Party by submitting your question to Governor Kaine:

http://www.democrats.org/welcomekaine

The success of our party in the years ahead depends on strong leadership, but it also depends on a committed membership determined to bring change.

Thank you for your hard work and please join me in welcoming Chairman Tim Kaine,

Barack

Why not argue your point of view forthrightly and honestly and debate people with whom you disagree?

I haven't seen any Dean supporters throwing any temper tantrums, and even if they were that is no justification for portraying all who have spoken in support of Dean the way you are doing here.

38. Winning is about winning; leading is about engendering loyalty
Some have been overbearing on the implications, but some are just a bit surprised and disappointed. As someone who couldn't STAND Dean in '03 and '04 and had serious problems with the more ga-ga supporters from his camp, I'm very happy with what he's done as DNC chair. I'm not much of a fan of Obama's either, even though I voted for him, support the administration and generally keep my annoyance to myself in public. He's got his points, but I'm a firebrand on the subject of religion, and he's played it to the hilt.

Oscar Wilde once had one of his characters say something that used to annoy me until I gave it a second thought: "In matters of grave importance, style, not sincerity is the vital thing." I had thought in my callow youth that this meant that content wasn't important, but appearances were. What I see now that applies here is the polish and finesse of stratospheric high-wire politics. If they learn from their sloppy snubbing of Feinstein (which they seem to have done beautifully) and a bit of shabby discarding of a pivotal and successful leader like Dean, then all is well and good. If they continue on with their utilitarian and opportunistic using of people and then tossing them aside, there's going to be hell to pay. Nothing saps loyalty like disloyalty.

The words still burn in my ear of the campaign contact's response to the McClurkin disaster of 10-28-07, when asked if there were any misgivings: "we got what we needed to get out of it."

Some people are being excessively shrill, but some are merely pointing out the unpleasant appearances of the situation. I hope they learn from it. One can't get saddled with the characterization that one just uses people when convenient and then throws them aside. The very prevalence of the term "throwing x under the bus" is disturbing beyond belief. This is getting to be a standard characterization, and not just here in the hotbed of lefty discontent. That is not good.

Remember, too, that zealotry has its payback: Mr. Obama has benefited mightily from legions of followers who are willing to overlook all sorts of disturbing things and are often in the mode of extreme and instant dissent crushing. Meet the Deanies. Good thing they haven't pissed off the Clarkies or there'd be REAL hell to pay.
